My husband was diagnosed with oral cancer on 8/13/08. Since that time, the OCF has been instrumental in lending their support and time to answer questions and give information to my husband and I. Their organization gave us extreme relief in knowing that there were others out there who could understand exactly what we were going through with the type of cancer my husband had. We are very grateful that Brian Hill founded this organization. He, especially, was a wonderful source of support and lended his time freely whenever we were concerned about something and had a question for him.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the interaction with the people who understand what we were/are going through.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

willing to offer their support during their personal time.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

educate and offer materials to every dental office in America about the importantance of oral screenings.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every month

I contribute to the organization due to the tremendous potential they have to save lives. Seeing how they have grown and helped so many people is very satisfying. The Oral Cancer Foundation has been instumental in educating as many phycicians and the public as they can. Remarkably, they do this on a shoe string or less budget. It would be very gratifying to see what they could accomplish with some respectable funding.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the 6 million or more hits it gets everyday on its web site.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

all the donations go to a cause of improving education, outreaches to the dentists, helping its members, promoting and partcipating in research being conducted at the most recognized hospitals.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

professional and very bright

Ways to make it better...

my brother had not to suffer as he did. If dentists were a bit more proactive back then. Instead of "well lets wait and see, we'llkeep an eye on it"

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

They need to be funded generously now. There is whole army of young people coming up that will be getting this dreaded disease.

One thing I'd also say is that...

oral cancer is rising steadily higher while smoking is dramaticaly going down.

I am a medical provider and a patient who has been treated for Stage IV oral cancer. I have found the Oral Cancer Foundation to be a wonderful resource to allow me the opportunity to learn about my disease, stay abreast of new research and developments, direct questions to my Cancer providers, and allow me the opportunity to NOT feel alone, isolated or without a sense of support. I cannot stress how important they have been in a disease that does not receive the prominence of other more common diseases. First Rate!!!!

My personal experiences with this disease!

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would try to get more national recognition, as they are doing now.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The opportunity to review threads and learn of others with similar experiences to mine as well as to review the most current research and information on my disease.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

I have interacted, on line, and have been very pleased with the information I've received!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Help to increase awareness to those at risk before the disease develops, to improve screening by making the individual a more vocal advocate for that screening to be done.

Ways to make it better...

I had been able to find out about the organization sooner, due to better awareness of a relatively uncommon form of cancer.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Oral Cancer is so relatively small in incidence relative to other more heavily publicized diseases.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I appreciate all they do!!!!

The OCF has been instrumental in helping my sister-in-law Suzanne Gallo in her fight against oral cancer! I donated money and participated in a walk in May 2009 w/ Suzanne and other family members to support efforts at finding a cure for this disease!
