St Vincent De Paul Society in Tolleson,Az is a true blessing. They have provided myself(Richard) an unemployed Vietnam Era Veteran with the will to live. The organization has assisted me numerous times with food. I have no job and an underwater mortgage. My home will eventually go away; If, assistance is not available. I 've tried all the programs,SaveMyHome,HardestHitFund and I quality for not one. St Vincent De Paul does not have the funds or resources for mortgage assistance. My family is poor and i have no where to go. They have been very spirtual and I pray to God for help. I wish and I pray God will hear me out. Thank you. Richard, E-Mail Valencia.richard11@yahoo.com

I have had a wonderful and rewarding experience volunteering for the National Military Family Association. They work very hard to develop programs that benefit all military families. Their volunteers are tireless. It is a phenomenal Association. I love being a part of them.

I came across this group through an internet search and further research showed that they are good stewards of their money. My wife and I are thankful for the work done on behalf of military families and we will continue to donate. Thanks for all that you do!

The Association has provided support and resources for my family and military community. They have provided me with the tools to help advocate on behalf of other military families.

I first became aware of the Association as a relatively new military spouse back in 1995. While I was becoming familiar with organizations that supported military families locally, I had no understanding of what was happening that impacted our families on a national and global level. I then attended a conference which featured a speaker from this amazing organization and I was hooked. They provided information, advocacy, and resources to military families and reassured me that there were people beyond my small little world looking out for our best interests. I am now a lifetime member of the Association and I have been a volunteer for the past ten years. The Association has played an important role in informing me of changes in benefits and services, in advocating on behalf of issues that directly impact my family's quaity of life, and in addressing my questions and concerns when I have sought information and guidance. Additionally as a volunteer, they have provided me with resources to succeed in my volunteering and have provided me with opportunities to use my skills to support military families and grow as a volunteer.

The activities of the National Military Family Association originally caught my attention when looking for ways to support students whom I later recognized as having something in common--affiliation with the U.S. military. Some of the articles and research present by the association not only assisted me in my professional role as a teacher, I eventually focused my doctoral dissertation on the resilience of military dependent students as a result. Publication is forthcoming. . . I remain grateful to the benefactors, staff, and other volunteers (of which I am one) for their contributions to families of our nation who . . . serve. The National Military Family Association offers a variety of supports, sometimes unrecognized, that buttress the fabric of our nation. In particular, I offer my appreciation for the numerous opportunities for kids and families to participate in the Operation Purple Camps.

I first began my "love affair" with the National Military Family Association in October 2009. I'd heard about it, but never really "knew" about it until my family was named the USCG Family of the Year during the Association's 40th Anniversary. Because of this special year, the event we attended was surreal. I don't remember a lot of the people I met but I know that there were a lot of military supporters there, including brass from all services, all the vendors that support the military, TriWest, our healthcare provider was a sponsor, and of course the Board of Directors for the Association and their support. After the event was over, I decided I wanted to give back since I was given such an awesome award and opportunity. I became an Association Representative and fostered others to become Reps also. I also reported back to the Association that there were problems in the Alaska military area that should be addressed. I attended well thoughtout trainings that the Association recorded for me so I could still work and be a volunteer. I have now been a Rep and/or Volunteer for the Association for almost 3 years. I was also sent to a camp for military children to observe how they administer their programs and report it back to the Association - lots of fun. I am lucky to be a volunteer although lately I have been so busy with my children and life that I can volunteer when I can! If anyone is looking for a place to volunteer, this is it. I could go on and on but I'll stop now.

I was first intruduced to the National Military Family Association by winning the Coast Guard Family of the Year award from them in 2009. I was so inspired by all of the wonderful things they do for active duty, retired, spouses, and children that I had to become a regular volunteer. I now write for them, speak about what they do and the services they offer to fellow military folks, and attend trainings when available. If you need any military information at all whatsoever, they are the go-to website/organization! The Association also started Operation Purple Camps for children of active duty military that are away from their families! Awesome stuff!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Winning the Family of the Year award, which they created, and Michelle Obama backs. Mrs. Obama spoke to the families on the night of the award ceremony and stated that the work of the Association is so important and so are military families. Very impressive.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Make more paid jobs around the US instead of volunteering because I would LOVE to work for this Association forever.

Having worked with the NMFA on scholarship vetting and advising on government relations I have found that it is using all of its resources to help military families realize success. Being a daughter of a military member, the spouse of a military member and the mother of a military member, having an organization like the NMFA focused on the family, is a real benefit. As a volunteer I have been able to give scholarships to deserving individuals who would likely been unable to continue educational pursuits. I have been also been able to pass on my expertise to the organization to aid in making influential decisions that impact military families.
