The Miller Institute for Learning with Technology

My son attended their summer class in 2010 and thoroughly enjoyed it. He's been into Lego robotics ever since and is in a robotics after-school program this Fall. I wish the Learning Institute would partner with local schools to make the schools' robotics programs more robust.
The Great!
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
getting my son interested in robotics.
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
encourage them to partner with our local school, North Star Academy, to build a truly incredible robotics program.
We started our relationship with The Miller Institute on recommendation from some charter school associates in California. They did such a wonderful job showing me the ropes of dealing with the E-Rate process, that I didn't require much assistance applying in our second year of successful funding. However, I so thoroughly enjoyed working with them, that I invited them to develop a technology leadership training institute for our 4 charter schools' administrators. It worked out wonderfully, our school administrators have increased their buy-in to the strengths of technology integration in both classroom teaching and teaching evaluation. We even have an administrator now recording lesson delivery and using the recordings to coach and mentor his teachers.

I've personally experienced their commitment to excellence and timeliness in applying for E-Rate and delivery of customized technology leadership training.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Move them to New Orleans so we could do more good works.
Miller Institute has been instrumental in getting our plans in place so that we could submit fundable applications for E-Rate. After several years of failed attempts, Miller Institute has help us to develop tech plans and to develop an internal protocal to ensure that our "steps to E-Rate success" are in place. Mark and his crew are very knowledgable and responsive. There are also very nice individuals and are a pleasure to work with!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
their responsiveness to our questions and the guidance they provide.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
change the way that students are educated. Students would have access to the technology they need for the 21st century.

The Miller Institute for Learning with Technology has worked with Fenton Avenue Charter School and the Fenton Primary Center, two charter schools in the Lake View Terrace, a suburb of Los Angeles. The institute has assisted us in writing and receiving approval for E-Rate (Education Rate) plans that allow our schools to provide a level of technology to our 1,450 students far and above anything seen or available at a typical school within our authorizing district (Los Angeles Unified). The Miller Institute is more than knowledgeable, they are true experts in the field of educational technology and their recommendations and insight have allowed our schools to remain competitive and successful, while serving our community well.

We are always very appreciative when someone takes the time to write a few kind words about our programs. We are also happy to note that we are offering many after school programs in the Bay area, in partnership with local schools as well as cities. We are excited to share that we just learned that our team, the San Mateo County Community STEM Alliance (a partnership with Pacifica, Half Moon Bay and San Carlos as well as our colleagues at Coastside STEM) has been selected for a grant, reaching out to under-served students in several areas of the County. We would welcome the chance to collaborate with our friends in RWC, such as North Star Academy, as well.
