I work for an organization that collaborates with the Lighthouse in various ways. This experience has also led me to volunteer with the Lighthouse on various occassions. To be very honest, the Lighthouse never ceases to amaze me. The compassion and dedication of the staff seems virtually unending and it is clear that everybody truly believes in the mission of the organization and will do all they can to carry that mission out. In my opinion, the Lighthouse exemplifies what it is to work in the field of human services.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the fact that when they see a need in the community they think outside of the box and try in everyway to meet that need.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

dedicated and compassionate. These indivdiuals truly care about the people they serve.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

carry out its mission on much greater scale.

Ways to make it better...

my experiences with the Lighthouse are always wonderful and nothing could make it better.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

the limited budget that they work with. It never ceases to amaze me what they can do and the way they can help people change their lives with a very little bit of money (but a whole lot of love).

I will be interning at the Lighthouse Foundation this summer. I have also been involved with the Lighthouse a few times in the past through different youth group activities. In my short time there so far, I have seen employees work passionately toward goals and treat each and every person with respect, compassion, and understanding.

I was around when this non profit was formed. I am passionate about this ministry. I have seen many people's lives changed because of this non profit. It was formed at a time when the steel mills were on the decline in Pittsburgh and people who never thought they would need help suddenly needed a Food Bank! The Lighthouse was therre to stand in the gap for them. I have seen homeless kids have a place to live....and a place to set goals and see dreams fulfilled. I

The Lighthouse has been an active and collaborative community partner in Butler County for many years. I have had the privilege of working with The Lighthouse for the past four years in such areas as disaster response and recovery (Hurricane Ivan) through the local Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD), transitional and interim housing through the Local Housing Options Team (LHOT) and with the Utilty Single Point of Contact (USPOC). In each of the above activities and in many more, The Lighthouse has acted with dedication, integrity and admirable commitment to those in need.

I grew up at the Lighthouse since my family has been very actively involved since it's first day of operation. My mother was an employee while I was in middle school. While I was in college, I interned at The Lighthouse- then went on to serve through AmeriCorps after I graduated. I now am the Director of Transitional Housing. I am inspired by the vision of the ministry, Vern- our fearless leader, and seeing people change for the better once you invest in them. It is an amazing thing to be a part of- I feel very blessed!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

meeting basic needs for people, motivating others to do better, giving people a sense of family, seeing people grow closer in their relationship with Christ!

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

practice servant leadership as Vern does now- getting his hands dirty and serving the people we help as well as the employees and volunteers, encouraging them to keep on!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

meeting wonderful people along their journey to becoming more independent and realizing their potential.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

selfless and caring.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

start some of my dreams for The Lighthouse including a drop-in coffeehouse bookstore, more youth outreach programs, more services for homeless families.

Ways to make it better...

more people understood our mission and saw all of the great things we do that do not get noticed!

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

maintaining the sense of family and care for the people we serve in a world that is rapidly becoming impersonal.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I am proud to be a part of this ministry.

The Lighthouse Foundation has been an inspiration to our community. I first became aware of the agency in 1994 while working for a health and human service agency. What amazed me about the agency was it's willingness to give to those in need with nothing expected in return. The agency has wonderful staff and volunteers that were always willing to take an extra step and make something positive happen. It has been a pleasure working with the agency over the past 18 years. You won't find a more devoted agency, staff, or volunteer base anywhere.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

action! They have met more needs (emotionally, spiritually, physically) than one could ever dream. I can't praise this agency enough. The Lighthouse Foundation takes a calm, quiet and collected approach to barriers and works through them.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

strive to continue the blessed work that was started before me, seek to assist more with less, and always stay true to the mission of God.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the cooperative, forward thinking approach to improve our community. The agency has a "Can Do" attitude that is infectious. If you believe, you can!

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

extremely friendly and personable. They make you feel at home in a tough situation and don't give up on someone who didn't get it right the first time.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

bring about lasting change to blighted communities, families, and children. The possibilities are endless. I know the agency would make 100 million dollars worth of change with the 10 million they started with.

Ways to make it better...

I really can't think of a way that it could have been better. How can you ask for change when truly good hearted people are working hard to make a difference in a community?

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

the lack of community knowledge about the wonderful work being done in their own community by an agency that asks so little.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I believe in the mission of The Lighthouse. They are helping many with basic human needs, including friendship. I'm proud to be associated with an agency that does what is right because it is His way!

Awesome organization! Very mission driven, and willing to help any and all people in need of basic life skills and resources.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

transitional housing, food pantries, wheels of work, education and refferals.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

continue the great work--maybe even expand programs to encompass more people.

More feedback...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the wonderful attitude of our staff.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

really friendly! And so generous. It still amazes me how willing those are that help to give of their time and treasure to The Lighthouse.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

reach millions of people! All joking aside, I have never worked for a more fiscally responsible organization. And the money truly does go towards programs.

Ways to make it better...

there were more kids able to attend the trip!

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

awareness and monetary funding. While those who know about the Lighthouse are very familiar, and aware, those who have never been exposed to us tend to be clueless about what we do.

One thing I'd also say is that...

The Lighthouse is unlike any other social service agency i've encountered. I am amazed by the dedication shown by the staff--it is truly unique, and the culture here is so positive. An amazing job to have!
