The Jazz Gallery has been home to me since i moved to the city four years ago. It's a venue that I feel fortunate to call "home" and their fostering of young talent is truly remarkable. Music is number one at the Gallery and I've learned so much from peers, elders, and mentors by hearing them at countless shows there. It is one of the most important places for music and the development of artists/groups not only in New York City, but in the world!

Like many that have posted, I only have the most positive things to say about the Jazz Gallery. So many in fact that it's difficult to choose, and even more difficult to not be utterly repetitive. I guess what always leaps out at me is the absolute consistency of excellence in their programming. When scrolling through their future and former shows there's an incessant internal "Wow, I want to see that!" that chimes without end. There's no other club in the city that offers that kind of attention to the scene and with such an accurate and thoughtful barometer. But what makes that extra special, is that the club manages to maintain its reputation as having the best shows nightly, while offering chances to a slew of young and upcoming artists that might not get the opportunity to showcase their talent and vision. It cannot be overstated how essential this is to the community, and the JG pulls it off with grace and a ludicrous success rate. Having both played there and sat innumerable times in the audience, I couldn't recommend this organization enough, or speak an higher to it's impact in the community.

I am still pretty new to the New York Jazz scene but the Jazz Gallery is the single most important venue/community in my life. I think this statement would ring true to many of some of the most respected jazz musicians today, both upcoming and established. This is New York, so to hear amazing music by amazing musicians is really nothing special by itself but the Gallery is something more, much more. It is a place that allows growth. Where musicians can feel free of pressure and really push themselves. I will never forget the night Walter Smith played at the gallery. It was like a scene out of a jazz history film. Everyone was there, I mean everyone. The energy from the audience alone was so crushing. This is something that you do not find every where. Musicians as well as fans are drawn to the Gallery because of the love and support that resides there. Another special night for me was the night I lead my band at the Jazz Gallery. Stepping on the stage that I watched so many amazing players play was something that touched me down to my very core. I was literally stepping into the history of that stage and all the music that had every been played and would be played was there with me. I can never repay the Gallery for what they have given me. All the music, friendships and the opportunity to play are all priceless. All I can give them is my thanks and praise. The Jazz Gallery is a shinning example of how to support the arts. It takes more than money or even a space. You have to be behind it 100%. Slow nights, long nights, difficult players and bad weather. If you stand for the music it will stand for you.So I am standing firmly behind the Jazz Gallery and I am most certainly not alone.

The Jazz Gallery is one of the most important breeding grounds for improvised music worldwide. Their programming is audacious and varied. Most importantly, it is an established venue in New York City that is not afraid to take chances by giving younger musicians the opportunity to lead a band. This is an incredibly rare feat. Having been able to perform at the Jazz Gallery has been of invaluable importance to me as a musician.

The Jazz Gallery is THE most important place for the development of jazz music in New York City. Virtually all of the major movements and innovations in jazz over the past decade were initiated at the Jazz Gallery. It has long had a reputation as an incubator of the finest talent, where musicians are encouraged to develop their craft, which by definition shapes the development of the wider art form in a profound and lasting way. The Jazz Gallery is directly responsible for shaping the NYC and therefore the global jazz music scene. Personally speaking, it has provided me with countless opportunities to perform and try out new ideas and new music. I have benefitted immensely from all of the opportunities the Jazz Gallery has provided me, and it has been an integral part of my development as an artist. I know that countless other musicians feel the same way. Simply the best and most important organization that exists for jazz music today, anywhere.

The Jazz Gallery is easily my favorite place to hear music or to play music in New York City. The work they do is outstanding in promoting new artists and it has become one of the most important cultural institutions in the city, if not the country. It has given many young jazz musicians a platform to experiment, yielding some of the most creative music happening today, which in turn has kickstarted many young careers. The integrity of what they do and the music always remains intact. A very important place.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

witnessing the growth of many jazz musicians who began their career at the Jazz Gallery, and having seen some exceptional music there.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

change nothing.

The Jazz Gallery has undoubtedly done more than any other venue to further the NYC jazz/improvised music scene. Their dedication to presenting fresh and innovative artists as well as premiering new work is second to none.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

receiving support and encouragement to premiere four new bodies of work at The Jazz Gallery.

help this venue secure a few pieces of updated equipment.

I cannot think of another venue which offers to the general public and the musicians community what The Jazz Gallery does. As far as I'm concerned it is THE ONLY Jazz club in NYC that: - has the highest stantards choosing the bands that it presents, while allowing the younger generation to have a chance to present it's work - that offers accessible prices to see top-notch artists - that supports the artist community with various grants - that encourages artists to innovate... I can go on and on. I cannot think of any other jazz organization I would support but this one.Sincerely, Pedro Giraudo

As a musician, I consider myself blessed to be part of the Gallery¹s family, to have performed there with pride on many occasions with my large ensemble, the Pedro Giraudo Jazz Orchestra, which the Gallery recognized as important enough to inaugurate its Large Ensemble Series, and through the Gallery¹s efforts, I was given a composer¹s grant to write the new music that will be the centerpiece of my new CD. The debt I owe to the Gallery is immeasurable.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I have been given composition grant which allowed me to write the music for CD I'm about to release

The changes I would make require money, which are all related to matters not related to how the organization is run, but it's facilities for example.

There is nowhere else in New York City that does what The Jazz Gallery does. No other venue is as thoughtfully curated and offers as many services to its musical family and its music loving patrons. As a musician relatively new to the city and the jazz community, The Jazz Gallery's support of my music and my career has been invaluable. Going way beyond offering my band a place to play, they have opened their doors in off hours for rehearsals and have even offered critical advice and co-writen grant proposals with me. They are one-of-a-kind, and a necessity to New York's music community.
