The Jazz Gallery is a treasure. There is nothing else like it on New York's music scene. It consistently presents the highest quality music in an appealing and intimate space. Its programming is exciting and vital.

The Jazz Gallery is one the most important venues showcasing Jazz and improvised music in New York city. It has been and continues to be an invaluable resource in fostering the development of new and established artists presenting their original work. The environment provides the performer and listener with an opportunity to truly concentrate on the MUSIC without distraction. From my vantage point as a musician and listener it is without parallel in NYC and should be celebrated as such!

The Jazz Gallery is one of the best listening venues for jazz and serves an integral role within the jazz scene.

Not only does this venue provide the listener with the highest level of seasoned talent within the field, it also provides a platform for extremely talented emerging artists.

As a performer it is by far my most favorite venue to perform at (and to listen to good music) because it is one of the few jazz venues that is a "listening" space - free from distractions provided by a bar or conversation.

Furthermore the venue runs like clockwork - this is because of their extremely diligent, friendly and professional staff who make things so easy for everyone who performs or listens.

The Jazz Gallery provided me a platform to kickstart my career as a leader (I had my CD release there in 2010) and still enables me to experiment with my different projects as a leader. I feel as a musician, while perfecting one's craft is half the battle, finding good venues to play is the other.

If there was anything to improve on, perhaps better sound in the room.

The Jazz Gallery is one of the few remaining "listening rooms" in NYC for creative jazz musicians. It provides a fully-equipped space, well set up to present challenging, original music in an environment free from distracting, ambient noise that seems to be the norm at a majority of jazz clubs in the city. Also, the club is unique in that they support up-and-coming jazz composers through their commissioning program. As someone who has spent many hours there as a side-musician, bandleader, and audience member, I can't stress enough how vitally important the Jazz Gallery is in continuing the survival and advancement of original jazz music.

Wouldn't change a thing. The Jazz Gallery's mission statement is right on target.

The Jazz Gallery has served as a platform for new music in NYC for the better part of the last decade. It has given young musicians like myself the opportunity to explore and experiment in a very comfortable and open minded atmosphere. It is because of places like this one that Jazz Music has been able to evolve and reach a wider audience, and I couldn't ask for a better home for our music than this groundbreaking venue.

It was the first venue that gave me the opportunity to present my music on a consistent basis, and I continue to perform there regularly. I've also been a part of many commission and residency projects initiated by the Jazz Gallery

I wouldn't make any changes at all. This venue just needs more funding in order to keep doing the great job they've been doing so far.

The Jazz Gallery has offered generations of jazz musicians a home. They consistently present some of the finest musicians in the world. And they have a rare niche with always presenting the newest crops of new jazz musicians, often giving them repeated engagements to help break them into the jazz arena. As a young artist I was a recipient of their support and continue to perform there because it is becoming one of the most important venues in the world. Also, the admission price of many of their concerts are within financial grasp of the throngs of young jazz musicians and students in NYC.

I've watched them not only cultivate musicians, but also generate funds to support new commissions. They gave my band an opportunity to perform there on a number of occasions.

Acquire a better air conditioner. In the summer, it's a jazz sauna.

I have performed at the gallery. They take such good care of the people they present, and work incredibly hard on behalf New York's jazz and arts community. I couldn't think of a more deserving venue for this award.

I always tell people that if I lived in NY I'd be broke. That's not because of what you may think (I'm a jazz trumpeter by trade), but because I would frequent the Jazz Gallery so much due to their adventerous programming that I would barely eat. This institution has been booking some of the freshest visionaries on the jazz and improvising scene in NY and elsewhere for some time. Whenever I look at the programs of what's going on in NY, I am always impressed with the artists that are slated to perform there. That not only says alot about the Jazz Gallery and it's wonderful staff, but it says alot about the dedication of the players who play there and the enjoyment they get from playing the room.

I've had the great fortune of presenting my band at the Jazz Gallery on 2 separate occasions and I can honestly tell that each time I felt compelled to present musical projects there that I wouldn't normally present anywhere else. I guess that there is an aura about the room that calls for originality.

I consider the Jazz Gallery to be one of the cornerstones to the jazz scene in NYC, which is still considered to be the "Jazz Capital of the World" by many. For the player and the listener alike this place is your one stop shop for some of the most inspiring creative music that you'll hear in this world!!!

The Jazz Gallery is one of the most important venues in New York because the music lives and breaths there. Musicians at any stage in their career can present their music in a low pressure atmosphere that is supportive. It is a venue where musicians can "work out" their music, and to some extant the audience is there to hear this process. As there are few if any distractions, the audience is there to listen...musicians are there to play.

The Jazz Gallery is one of the most important platforms for jazz musicians in the city. It provides the invaluable service of giving voice to the creative process of many talented and deserving artists. As a musician, I can attest to the positive and inspiring effects this has had on me personally, and on many of my peers. It is directly responsible for much of my compositional output, since each time I've played there as a leader, I've been inspired to premiere some new piece, or to try some idea that would perhaps otherwise never have been heard. It also feels like one of the only venues in the city that is run by people who genuinely care about the art form and it's future. This is something that is sadly rare in our time. Many thanks to the Jazz Gallery and the people who look after it!

The organization is amazing! The only thing I can think of that might benefit the venue would be a slight improvement of the sound of the room. Still, it's one of my favorite places to play.
