I have performed at the gallery. They take such good care of the people they present, and work incredibly hard on behalf New York's jazz and arts community. I couldn't think of a more deserving venue for this award.

I always tell people that if I lived in NY I'd be broke. That's not because of what you may think (I'm a jazz trumpeter by trade), but because I would frequent the Jazz Gallery so much due to their adventerous programming that I would barely eat. This institution has been booking some of the freshest visionaries on the jazz and improvising scene in NY and elsewhere for some time. Whenever I look at the programs of what's going on in NY, I am always impressed with the artists that are slated to perform there. That not only says alot about the Jazz Gallery and it's wonderful staff, but it says alot about the dedication of the players who play there and the enjoyment they get from playing the room.

I've had the great fortune of presenting my band at the Jazz Gallery on 2 separate occasions and I can honestly tell that each time I felt compelled to present musical projects there that I wouldn't normally present anywhere else. I guess that there is an aura about the room that calls for originality.

I consider the Jazz Gallery to be one of the cornerstones to the jazz scene in NYC, which is still considered to be the "Jazz Capital of the World" by many. For the player and the listener alike this place is your one stop shop for some of the most inspiring creative music that you'll hear in this world!!!

The Jazz Gallery is one of the most important venues in New York because the music lives and breaths there. Musicians at any stage in their career can present their music in a low pressure atmosphere that is supportive. It is a venue where musicians can "work out" their music, and to some extant the audience is there to hear this process. As there are few if any distractions, the audience is there to listen...musicians are there to play.

The Jazz Gallery is one of the most important platforms for jazz musicians in the city. It provides the invaluable service of giving voice to the creative process of many talented and deserving artists. As a musician, I can attest to the positive and inspiring effects this has had on me personally, and on many of my peers. It is directly responsible for much of my compositional output, since each time I've played there as a leader, I've been inspired to premiere some new piece, or to try some idea that would perhaps otherwise never have been heard. It also feels like one of the only venues in the city that is run by people who genuinely care about the art form and it's future. This is something that is sadly rare in our time. Many thanks to the Jazz Gallery and the people who look after it!

The organization is amazing! The only thing I can think of that might benefit the venue would be a slight improvement of the sound of the room. Still, it's one of my favorite places to play.

I've had the opportunity to work at the Jazz Gallery several times over the years. It is one of the few places in New York where you can hear great live music without the distractions of food and or drinks servers. It exist purely for the music. I love the Gallery...It keeps getting better and better.

I love this place. They are the only place presenting new music on a regular basis. It has such a warm atmosphere and i can tell it's a home for the musicians. A very important place in the New York cultural scene.

without the jazz gallery there is no jazz scene of today , period. Over the last eleven or so years i have been fortunate to witness the develop of many who are considered todays pioneers of the this beautiful art form. In todays ever growing environment of internet based social media we need places like this to continue to evolve as humans. We need a place that supports ARTIST ( very different from musicians ) to liberate us from our ignorance. Artist who challenge us. Artist who force us to confront ourselves. The jazz gallery is this. Congrats To the JAZZ GALLERY !!!!!

The Jazz Gallery is one of the only remaining places in New York City (or anywhere, for that matter) to provide a quality location for young emerging jazz musicians, composers, and bandleaders to be heard. These budding artists are provided a place where they feel free to try out new music, a new ensemble, and experiment with their craft in front of a live, paying and receptive audience--this imperative to a musicians development, yet is almost impossible to do anywhere else. Coupling this with performances by more established artists creates a truly unique venue for both musicians and the listening public alike. Best of all perhaps, is the fact that the Jazz Gallery isn't prejudiced toward one type or 'style' of jazz--many different sub genres of jazz are featured, representing the many diverse strands of jazz and improvisational music that exist today. I have had the fortune to perform here on many occasions, and debuted music from my first CD here. The Jazz Gallery is truly one of a kind!

The Jazz Gallery continually serves as an exemplary model of excellence in the field of jazz. The organization is a vital contributor to the New York City jazz scene, not only championing up and coming jazz musicians, but challenging them by commissioning new works which receive their premiere performances there. To my knowledge there is no other institution in New York like it. Some of the great jazz artists of tomorrow cut their teeth at the Jazz Gallery and the ones who HAVE moved upward in their careers still consider the Gallery their home.

My artists have been commissioned by the Jazz Gallery and I have found the venue to invaluable to the New York City jazz scene. It's contributions reverberate well beyond New York.

do nothing to change it. At first I thought maybe they would benefit more by advertising more, but part of what makes the Jazz Gallery special is that it's just slightly below the radar.

The Jazz gallery is providing a neutral environment for musicians to develop their craft in. I believe it is directly responsible for a huge chunk of the innovation that is currently happening in the jazz community in New York City, which in turn is spreading throughout the rest of the world.
