HSUS has pulled the biggest scam on the public and media known to man. they are nothing about welfare and all about animal rights. The richest animal rights organization in the world with affiliates whose names you wouldn't guess are HSUS puppets. It is way past time they are exposed for what they really are an animal rights organization bent on making us all vegans with a bottom line of a petless/meatless society. They deny it, but look at who they hire, where they spend their money, the law suits they are involved in, the information on their website, the propaganda they sell our children and the groups they work with. They are experts wordsmiths, just try an pin them down on a question. They are the best at using emotional issues, pictures an videos to over rule common sense, the facts and take your money.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I've met with Wayne Pacelle and HSUS board of directors, I've debated HSUS in the media. I've testified at state and local level on legislation HSUS has tried to pass.

I suggest they use their vast income of up to 120 million a year and 200 million in assets to help animals, contribute to shelters and groups working to help animals that need our help. Instead they spend their money introducing legislation that will change our life styles and make the world what they believe it should be. Look at their salaries and retirement a lot more on animals and less on themselves. They've make money on confrontation while we spend it to defend the activities with animals we love

I've worked in purebred rescue for many years and have also bred, trained, and showed dogs on a limited basis for many years. I've seen this organization grow every year into a monstrous political presence which spends millions of the dollars that people think they're donated to help dogs in shelters to political campaigns, to pay lobbyists to further its political agenda, and influence governmental officials at every level.

By the time they're finished, only the very wealthy will be able to own dogs and cats or afford to eat eggs, meat, cheese, and milk.

Further, when they do get involved with an issue like helping with disaster affected pets or in animal seizures, they solicit all the money for it and leave the local shelters and rescues to handle all the animals.

Legislative issues in several states. Workied after Katrina in La. and saw first-hand how poorly this was done, also have seen several seizures of hoarders' animals which HSUS used for publicity to raise funds and further ending the breeding of dogs and cats. Placement of the animals was left to local rescues and shetlers which didn't get a dime.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Disperse the money to shelters and rescues across the country, try to help municipalities improve the way they deal with unwanted animals, provide counseling, subsidized veterinary care, and other assistance to help with owner retention. Give up the campaign to end animal ownership.

There is an organized attack on the hsus precisely BECAUSE they are effective and threaten those who put profit before the best interests of animals. Like one of the recent posters, I eat meat. I also have purebred dogs, wear leather shoes and yet I dont' feel at all that hsus is trying to take away my rights to do any of those things. why doesn't hsus fund local shelters? It's not their job any more than it's a local shelter's job to send someone to Canada to take pictures of sealers clubbing baby seals. I've worked at a shelter and I've come to know people at hsus (unlike probably any of the people posting negative reviews). hsus should keep strong in the face of this c$#@ and continue their work for animals.

I think they should defend themselves more strongly against all the misinformation being spread about them. they may want to rise above it and i can respect that. but a lot of people are being misled by their detractors.

If you want your local shelters to be helped with thier homeless animal DO NOT donate to HSUS Less than 1% of thier 100 million a year goes to the animals. Their ads give the impression that it is going to your local shelters but it is not. They attend all high profile events and use that event to get more donations .

Their ads make you think they are helping shelters. Our local shelters get nothing from them, and I'll bet yours doesn't, either. If they want your money for lobbying and animal rights activities, they should say so in their ads. They are deceptive and dishonest.

I lump the HSUS in with the ASPCA and PETA. They all play on the publics sympathy to make money and further their causes. Animal welfare has little if anything to do with their goals. If it did, they would support animal shelters with a little more than words. They claim credit that is not theirs to claim and the steal $$ from those who deserve it.

Donate to your local shelters (unless they are are associated with one of the aforementioned) and become a member of an organization that supports pet owners rights!

Self-serving, tax-evading, and misleading. This nonprofit looks like a umbrella of humane societies or shelters, but it is not. While some of the things it has done, and continues to do, will benefit animals, the agenda of the organization is essentially to separate animals and man...as in extremist vegan and anti-companion pets. The ads I have seen on TV say that my donations go to help the (neglected/abused animals in the pound) but they don't state how. Upon researching, they do it by regulating man's ability to keep animals and how they keep them, not by supporting the animals in the pound, or their vet bills, or to start up/continue supporting shelters.

It's political support of banning my pets-some of the snake species I love and keep- and thanks to that, I am now limited in the areas I can live.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Return it to the original purpose-a non lobbying, non political group of people who actively help care for shelters and the animals in them, as well as helping educate and fund ways to reduce pet overpopulation and abuse.

The H$U$ lures people through their sad commercials and I fell for it as well, but I didn't donate and good thing I didn't because instead of them being "non-profit" they are an "all-profit" organization and people should become aware of this.

The HSUS goes out of its way to promote dog fighting convicts. The rate of dog fighting rings has tripled in Philadelphia, PA since the HSUS has backed Micheal Vick. If you want the dogs in your neighborhood to die in a fight be sure to back this organization.

Contrary to their TV commercials they don't run any shelters. They give about 1% that is ONE Percent of the revenue donated to them to shelters that do help animals. On more than one occasion they have come to the defense of a shelter to KILL adoptable animals rather than turn them over to no kill 501c3 rescue groups. HSUS is a revenue generating machine for Wayne Pacelle and his ultimate agenda of eliminating companion animals, service animals, farm animals and human'e use of animals in any way.

I saw their lack of actual help in the Katria crisis even though their TV ads soliciting money said they were in the trenches helping.

Replace the entire board and officers with people who really care about the welfare of all animals.
