The Heart Connection provides numerous programs not only for the child but their family as well. It gives kids opportunity to be kids at oncology camp as well as allowing siblings their time away from it all.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

my community.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

they get to know the kids and their families.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

the BEST!!!!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

send all kids to camp and provide their every wish.

The Heart Connection is such a wonderful organization. I love that it provides great events for not only the children struggling with cancer, but also their siblings as well. It always has great things for the children to do and the staff and volunteers are great!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the effects they have on the children involved

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

want to expand to more camps and events for the children each year. Possibly expand outside of Des Moines.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the way everyone really exemplifies the mission of the organization.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

always helpful and great with the kids.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

allow so many children with cancer to enjoy a camp experience and allow for resources for their families on dealing with this illness.

Ways to make it better...

they had more funding for a larger staff.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

not enough recognition to allow for fundraising and necessary expansion.

I have recently retired and have chosen The Heart Connection as an organization with great volunteer opportunities. Whether selling t-shirts at the Iowa State Fair, wrapping gifts at the mall, baking cookies for a Fun Run or just stuffing envelopes in the local office you are surrounded by wonderful people who love what they are doing and working toward a great cause.

When I was introduced to the Heart Connection in 1996 as a camper I feel that I had gained a family for life. They have been there for me through my whole cancer journey from my second diagnosis and have started programming to help me as an adult survivor of cancer. I have had the ability to be a recipient of their programs and be a program leader as a volunteer to help others. I have gained so much from being a counselor for the Heart Connection and it is an honor to serve the children who are fighting cancer now. I can serve as an example to them they can grow up to fulfill their dreams and become something great!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

being involved with the programs by leading them and watching the campers gain confidence as they try new things at camp.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

have a very ful-filling, but hard job. The directors do a very good job of running the Heart Connection and they would be very hard to replace:)

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

I gain something every time I am involved with the Heart Connection and so I work to give back to the kids what they gave to me.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

friendly and welcoming. Very easy to work with and communicate with.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

expand to other states and become an example of how to run a fantastic program

Ways to make it better...

we were able to have more time at camp.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

it's hard to move on from certain traditions they've had for years in the camp programming, but some things could be updated.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I LOVE this organization and camp.

Our family has been served by the Heart Connection beginnin in 1988. Our children attended their camps. We have been recipents of their services, donors and volunteers. When our son, Kevin was struggling with cancer, he set his sites on getting to camp. He made it and The Heart Connection did not fail him in providing the best camp ever. The planning that took place by the staff to ensure he had a wonderful, safe time one last time gave us all memories to treasure for a lifetime.

The Heart Connection first changed my life when my baby brother was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in 1996, and has made my world a better place every day since then. Their support while we were going through treatment was invaluable, but the support they have given us in the time since my brother has been in remission has been amazing. There are few organizations that exist to help families navigate a post-cancer world, and the Heart Connection does it best!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

their focus on the whole family, recognizing that when a kid has cancer, the whole family hurts.

This is one of the most amazing organizations I know of. To see the faces of children and siblings touched by childhood cancer by the programs they have available is absolutely unbelievable! I've volunteered for this nonprofit for the last 5 years and have loved every minute of it, and they have improved their outreach to suit the needs of the families touched by cancer, as they need it.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the families who utilize the support and programs that are offered. The children that talk about camp from the day they leave until the day they come back the next year.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Try to improve programs and support as they do with feedback.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

seeing the children enjoy everyday things while being affected by cancer or treatment, or the loss of a sibling.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

All there for the same purpose, to give the children the BEST WEEK EVER!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Serve so many more and provide more services and support to this population and to the families. Possibly more support for siblings

Ways to make it better...

I had known and experienced it sooner.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Money/financial resources to provide services and support.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I have enjoyed every second I've been involved with this nonprofit, and would not trade my experiences here for anything.
