Issues: Children & Youth, Education, Religion

Location: PO Box 348138 Sacramento CA 95834 USA

Mission: Our mission is to cultivate a thriving community by nurturing the emotional, spiritual, intellectual, and physical development of our youth and inspiring them to grow to their fulll potential.
Programs:

Evergreen provides 25 kids in 1st through 6th grade with a safe, fun, and nurturing environment in which to work on homework, improve academic skills, and participate in recreational activities. Children are paired with an adult volunteer, a “Study Buddy,” who helps them with homework and develops a mentoring relationship with them. Because we believe strongly in the importance of relationships, we maintain a low child-to-adult ratio (3:1). Each of our Study Buddies works with the same group of kids each week, allowing them to develop a close relationship and establish consistency in the kids’ lives. In addition to working on homework, Evergreen students complete Rocket Math worksheets to improve their math skills and Read Naturally passages to increase their reading fluency. On Fridays, kids participate in Workshops such as art, community newspaper, computers, and sewing. Workshop experiences stimulate their creativity, boost their self-confidence, and help them discover their gifts and talents.

The GreenHouse offers a safe and caring environment for children and teens to go after-school and during the summer. Its mentoring, tutoring, leadership development and spiritual development programs are very well run by committed volunteers and staff. Youth love to be at The GreenHouse. They come back year after year and it's exciting to watch them grow and become all that God intended for them to be.

Entering into the warmth and energy of the energy on Monday afternoons is one of my favorite moments of the week, as the GreenHouse students greet me with unbridled enthusiasm. We sit together and read and try our best at adding fractions, we laugh and we celebrate when the light turns on in our understanding. This place, true to its name, is indeed a sanctuary for growth.

the way in which students encounter adults and the world in a more healthy and rounded way, observing an increase in positive daily habits, and seeing in my own self new places to grow.

The GreenHouse has a specific purpose in the neighborhood it's in. To impact the families there and partner with them to help them succeed. I have had the privilege to be a small part of what The GreenHouse is doing each and every day. It's a large task that is never ending but the staff and volunteers are dedicated to the neighborhood and the families.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Witnessing first hand children encouraged, educated, loved and supported. All the things they are lacking and desperately need.

The Greenhouse is a wonderful organization that is committed to the growth and development of kids in inner city Sacramento. The Greenhouse first started as an after school program for elementary age kids and has expanded over the years to include after school programs for junior high and high school kids, leadership programs, and mentoring programs. The people at the Greenhouse truly care for every kid that comes through their doors and are constantly seeking to better meet their needs and the needs of the community. The Greenhouse is not only serving the community, but also seeking to equip the kids to step up and become leaders in their community.

I've seen children struggling academically begin to overcome those challenges. I've seen kids start to grow into leaders of their communities and really care about what's happening around them.
