GCN has been a place of hope and community for me. One can post prayer requests and get support when in the lowest of times - often, for many of us, when we come out and our fellow Christians denigrate and hurt us. Finding support - even if it is from someone far away - is essential to our learning to accept ourselves. I have not personally experienced organized in-person community on a more local or regional basis in person through GCN; perhaps that is an area for improvement.

The work of The Gay Christian Network is not something you can quantify. You can't put it into words. You can't fit it into a box. The kind of work organizations like GCN do is life-giving. It, in a few inadequate words, allows the "gay" person or the person with "same-sex attractions" to experience that they are loved - whether they act out on those feelings or not. GCN loves and affirms one where they are. There is no pressure. There is a prayer board. There is discussion. There is community. I have experienced the power of the love and concern of people for me that I have never met before; a kind of love and support that literally keeps you going. Things can be dark in this world for someone with gay feelings - sometimes especially within religious settings. To hear that God loves you no matter what anyone has to say about it - no matter what your position is on whatever - is something I can't describe. Non-profits like GCN undoubtedly deserve our respect and appreciation.

This ministry saves lives. I am a gay, 20 year old male who was raised a very conservative, fundamentalist Christian household. I needed someone or something that would help me figure out that what had made me so depressed and overweight and unpopular for most of my life up to age 19 was because I was denying who I was. I was living in a world of black and whites, when the world is gray. It gave me the possibility of happiness found through accepting an essential, God-given part of me - my sexual orientation - instead of painfully denying and attempting to suppress it. It kept me from committing suicide over the despair of trying (and having failed) to change through ex-gay therapy for almost 4 years. If that doesn't far exceed the expectation of what a non-profit should do, I'm not quite sure what does.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

figure out ways to increase the activities of the regional groups. Face-to-face contact from GLBT Christian to GLBT Christian would be even more effective, powerful tool at changing lives.

This organization is eerily similar to the same churches the protest against. From the outside they look like a safe-haven; a place where you can learn and grow in Christ while being open and honest about who you are without the fear of condemnation or judgment. However, once one becomes active within the community they find it is a terribly different story. You are severely restricted on your ability to share ideas if it goes against the general consensus and will become a target of threats and condemnation if you stand firm to what you believe in. Psychologically speaking this site is a very detrimental site to the recovery of those who are seeking help from it. I have several reasons for saying this. First; their idea of support is enabling those seeking support to continue to wallow in their problems while providing them with no more than half hearted, truly empty positive affirmations. However their guise of Christian is no more than that. In promoting the sovereignty of Christ on that site, along with faith in Him and the Word you place yourself at being ejected from the site. They will so hatefully condemn the heterosexual community for their lack of acceptance just to turn around and do the same to those who come to their site seeking fellowship w/other bible believing homosexuals. I would not donate to this site whatsoever as it is unfruitful; a fact that is evident from it's stagnation in development and technology in spite of it's decade in existence. Any homosexuals, or family members of homosexuals seeking spiritual support would be better going to Exodus International. While I do not believe with Exodus International's agenda to make everyone "ex-gay" their practices and faith are more consistent with Christs teaching and they do stand a better chance of inciting personal growth within those who reach out to them. --M. This is a great place for christians who are gay to find fellowship and acceptance. The people are true followers of God and are always looking to help those who are struggling to finding there identities, or help those who have loved ones in their lives that are find acceptance with them. They truly seek to bridge the gap between faith and sexuality that has broken or severely damaged families and persons of same-sex attraction.

GCN has been a real blessing to me. To meet so many people from so many different backgrounds who all share this one thing in common- being gay and still strongly desiring to be close to God, has and is having a profound impact on me. I see more hope for my future now then I ever have in my past. I've went from feeling all was ending in my life, that I was unworthy of life, and that I had something seriously worng with me as a human being, to feeling now I have an important place in this world just like everyone else, that my life can mean something special to others, that I do belong here, and that I can make something good of my life. I never thought this was possible before. But I'm learning now it is. GCN has afforded me the opportunity to learn from so many other people, to hear their stories and experiences and be able to relate to every single one of them on a deep level. I know the things I take from GCN are things no one can take away from me. I know the longer I stay involved with this organization the more my life will change for the better. I can really see positive things happening. And I see it happing all the time for so many others who are connected with this organization.

GCN is a wonderful organization. I have struggled with reconciling my faith and sexual oreintation for my whole life, and it has been hazardous to my health more often than once.

Until I found GCN, I didn't have the possibility of ever finding that resolution and revolution in my thinking. The change in my life as a result of GCN has been drastic and overwhelmingly positive.

I can honestly say that I probably would be dead at my own hands without the Gay Christian Network's ministry.

hi justin,

i like addressing things to a person lol anyway.. i look to become more involved* within the gcn network and here is why.. you're Awesome! no well that's true but seriously gcn has helped me mostly through the video ministry (streaming) i've listened to many episodes and have been extremely encouraged in my Christian walk.

one specific example how gcn has helped me.. my faith has been strengthened and relationship with Him restored.

... this work is saving lives :-)

The Gay Christian Network is a wonderful non-profit organization that provides resources to the lgbt christian community and its allies. They have an online community as well as an annual conference, weekly podcast and a number of other resources. GCN helps those who are struggling with their sexuality and spirituality as well as give encouragement and community for those who are confident with who God made them.

I was so relieved to find GCN so that I knew I was not alone. I am a straight christian and I would like to see full equal respect and love go out to ALL members of Christ's body, especially including our glbt brothers and sisters.

This organization has literally saved my life. At a time in my life when I was sure that the God that I loved so much hated me for the way that He made me, I found GCN in the Summer of 2009, and found out that I couldn't be farther from the truth. I learned that God loved me just the way I was.
