I have been a volunteer Therapist form the families at the Eli home for the past year. I was amazed at the amount of structure and education that is provide to each family. The Eli Home services a verity of multi cultural families from all walks of live. The groups and one-on –one therapy is designed to build family unity, self-esteem, healthy relationship, budgeting, and life skills. The Eli Home offers their families a new beginning for a safe and healthy life. The families come to the Eli Home broken and defeated but, when they leave the home their eyes are full of hope for a new happy life.

I have been a volunteer for several years for the Eli Home; helping with the construction with the shelters as well as helping out at fundraising events and the Thrift Store. I have seen firsthand why this organization has been around for 27 years and I have seen the impact it has made on the children and mothers who come to live at the Eli Home. Their program gives hope to families who have suffered through terrible abusive situations. They educate the children and mothers on how to live violent-free lives as well as help the mothers with affordable housing and employment so they can improve the quality of their lives. With all non-profits, it’s hard to survive especially in this economy so my only hope is that the mission and message of the Eli Home will reach many future supporters.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

helping with the 2010 Eli Home Christmas Party. I was able to meet many of the families and even hear some of their personal stories and triumphs. I was able to see the positive and long-lasting impact that the Eli Home made on these families...so much so, that I caught myself tearing up on several occasions throughout the day. To be honest, I am a macho construction worker who has trouble showing my emotional side, so for me to tear up means a lot!

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

EXPAND! The only changes I would make to this organization would be to expand! More shelters, means helping more families who need it the most. The growing number of child abuse cases in Orange County sickens me and with more shelters we can counsel, educate, house, and encourage more victims of domestic violence.

More feedback...

Would you volunteer for this group again?

Definitely

For the time you spent, how much of an impact did you feel your work or activity had?

Life-changing

Did the organization use your time wisely?

Very Well

Would you recommend this group to a friend?

Definitely

What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?

My volunteer experience is always a pleasure with this organization and to improve my experience I would say that they could organize more fundraisers a year so that I can volunteer even more!

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

I met new friends at the Eli Home Christmas Party. The other volunteers that were there were all very nice and I gained many valuable friendships. I also befriended a boy and his family at the party and about a week later surprised him with a new bike. So I would say that the biggest positive effect would be the new relationships I gained while volunteering.

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

It made me feel grateful for what I have and grateful of how I was raised. I never experienced being physically abused by my parents so when I saw what these families have gone through and how much they have had to overcome, I quietly thanked God for the great things that I have been blessed with.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2010
