I found CORAL while searching for a non-profit that was in need of graphic design work. I sent an email about volunteering and have been working with this wonderful organization for almost 3 years now. Their focus on the local communities that rely on coral reefs for their livelihood is evident in everything they do.

I traveled to San Francisco for the 15th Anniversary event in September of 2009 and was able to meet many staff members and field representatives. It was a great experience and reaffirmed the great respect that this organization has for our coral reefs.

I found the Coral Reef Alliance at the San Francisco film fest. As a person who cares about the health of our oceans, I was interested in learning more about this organization. CORAL is a small organization that achieves big results. By educating the communities that rely on the coral reefs for tourism and resources, they enable future generations to to do the same. They use sustainable solutions in their mission to protect the biodiverse and fragile coral reefs. The work they do is imperative to the future survival of our beautiful coral reefs. The more funding CORAL receives, the more reefs they can help protect and this is why I am a member and volunteer. The CORAL team is a passionate group of people who are making big strides to save our reefs.

I found this international nonprofit after seeing all the wonderful work that had been done to preserve coral reefs in Hawaii and wanting to take a greater part in supporting initiatives of this sort. The Coral Reef Alliance team were very helpful in involving me in their organization and educating me about their environmental work. The Coral Reef Alliance works with local communities, managers of marine protected areas, and marine recreation tourism operators. They provide several useful educational workshops internationally and collaborate with organizations similar to their own to help spread the latest knowledge on management and best practices on coral reef preservation. Their strong international presence is often targeted towards small communities, areas where resources are most needed. They work in countries such as Indonesia, Papa New Guinea, and Honduras. The Coral Reef Alliance fulfills a much-needed niche in environmental efforts, benefiting both global efforts to keep oceans healthy and local community efforts for social and economic betterment. As with several other nonprofits I have volunteered with, perhaps their older computers could be updated, as well as some of their software programs. Luckily that is not visible from their site, which incorporates recent technological innovations and useful tools in order to best serve their online community. Overall I have found volunteering for The Coral Reef Alliance to be an informative and warming experience. The Coral Reef Alliance team is a truly wonderful crowd.
