After my husband told them to mail their information to him and he would consider the organization we have never heard the end of the telephone harrassment. They will not stop calling despite my telling them to remove our number and not to call. We've told them we will not be donating to them and Never give donations over the phone. They called all day yestterday and started calling at 8 am this morning. They know not to talk to me. They ask for my husband by name and when I say he is not available they hang up on me. Why do they use these harassing telemarketers. It is because of these calls that we will never donate to the BCS ever again. The BCS only gets 20% of the money donated via these calls. Why would I not just send it directly to the BCS if I wanted to support their programs?

I received a solicitation call from this "non-profit" organization. The woman on the line seemed very unprofessional and generally unlike the typical caller from a legitimate organization. When I agreed to pledge, she repeatedly said, "Oh, I love you, I love you, I love you. God bless you." I was quickly transferred to someone verifying my information to send me my pledge card. I felt a little uneasy when I got off the phone, so I began to research. Everything that I can find on this organization seems very fishy. In fact, the only favorable information I was able to find came from the president himself who responded to a public forum in which people were dogging the organization. I believe it is all a scam. I think that donating money to local charities and nationally recognized non-profits is probably the way to go! Oh, and when searching the "National Headquarters" address, I came to see that it is a residence with a pool. Interesting?!? The day after I pledged, someone called for another non-profit, "The Childhood Leukemia Foundation." My husband answered and experienced a similar strange woman. I do not know if these two companies are affiliated in any way, but I'm seeing all kinds of red flags!

I have been receiving calls and letters following up on a small amount that I may (or may not!) have pledged. I have worked in non-profit organizations for more than twenty years, and I know how to find and read forms 990. This corporation's only 990 show it to be everything I try to avoid in a charity -- a very high proportion of its income going to outside fund raising companies, high pay to a president, and apparently a building owned by the corporation.

They continue to call even though I've told them to take me off their list. Also, the fundraising company they use is under review or the subject of lawsuits by a number of state attorneys general. See http://neurodiversity.com/weblog/article/197/ for more information. It's a scam - don't donate to this company, unless you want to donate to a fundraiser.

I was a donor and I echo the reviews here. Breast cancer is such an important cause, but this is a scam. DO NOT DONATE. Once I realized that it wasn't a reputable charity, I told them I would make no more donations and I asked to be taken off the call list but to no avail. I urge you not to make my same mistake. Please read the reviews below (particularly the examination of the 990 financial for Breast Cancer Society) and choose another breast cancer organization for your charitable giving.

initially nice and seemed to care about cancer issues, but as soon as I agreed to donate I was transferred to a pushy person who told me I had made a promise to contribute and had to pay the "invoice" mailed to me as soon a I received it.

Ways to make it better...

at least most or a significant part of my donation actually went to cancer research and treatment.

Yes, I too made a small pledge. I haven't been able to find out much about the company, but they certainly are aggressive on the phone. I get many calls and a few letters, all for my tiny pledge. If what others have posted is true, it sounds like a big waste of charity money.

As the Finance Director of a $2 million non-profit, I have prepared over 20 years of Form 990's so I know what to look for. People should think twice about donating to this organization. The 990 is pretty scary. They claim to be a national organization but they list the Exec Dir at $120K. All other salaries total 40K. This is out of a total budget of $15.5 million. However, $7 million of that looks like a pass through of donated medicines that were shipped overseas. Only $145K of the remaining $8.5 million is direct aid to suffering people and research. The rest, or more than $8.2 million is fundraising expenses primarily paid to phone solicitors, etc. The fundraising expense to total expense ratio is way out of line. I could go on and on pointing out issues with their finances, but I'd rather find an organization that does a better job at putting my donations to work to help people with this terrible disease.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

hire some fundraising staff and stop paying most of the fees to paid solicitors. Hopefully that is the plan and this reliance on paid solicitors is just their strategy for getting started as a new organization.

More feedback...

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

either hire a lot of fundraising consultants, or put the money to good use helping people. Their choice.

Ways to make it better...

I thought they were really helping people.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

credibility . No one wants to see that almost all of their donations are going to fundraising expense

One thing I'd also say is that...

organizations that raise money by tugging at the heart strings need to do great things with the donors' trust.

I was solicited today by this organization. The manager to whom I was referred said that only 20% of the funds go to the charity and 80% go to administrative costs. I told her that the ratio should be reversed and that I could not contribute until that ratio is reversed.

I was solicited by this organization and have been followed up 2 additional times after making a small pledge. I have phoned the organization in order to pay by credit card and there is never an answer and no return calls. The last followup solicitor said that they do not take payments over the phone which is unheard of, nor have I ever been followed up on so often. There doesn't seem to be any financials available either.

I received a troubling telephone solicitation from a contract firm raising funds for The Breast Cancer Society, Mesa Arizona. Only 20% of the donation would go to the organization. The Society did not answer the two phone numbers 888-293-0553 or 480-284-4014. The web site is what I would call "pink-washed" Paying firms 80% of Dollars raised is shameful and exploitive of women with cancer!
