The Teaching & Learning Collaborative is continuously providing relevant and life changing lessons in science and mathematics for teachers at all levels. They are always on the cutting edge of important issues in education and developing lessons necessary for teachers to be successful. A particular area they have focused on are the Core Standards being introduced across the country. Their professional development classes give teachers the knowledge and confidence to help their students be successful in meeting these standards.

I've been teaching for almost 20 years. In all that time, I have never had a better professional learning experience than the sessions offered by TLC! They bring current research, strategies, and powerful ways to engage students in mathematics and science!

I attended TLC professional development sessions throughout my teaching career in math and science. I always came away a better teacher with wonderful lessons to use in my classroom. The staff of the TLC is passionate about what they are doing. Their enthusiasm for learning is contagious.

like to see more opportunities for teachers to attend the sessions. I often paid for the sessions myself because my district/school didnt' have available funds to send me.

This was my first of many classes that I will take through TLC. TLC gave me an indepth professional insight into math. Through the TLC professional development programs I am using more specific instruction which helps my students build themselves better number sense as well as problem solving skills.

TLC has improved the math and science that is available to elementary students over the past several years. The short courses and educational materials that the staff have developed have given elementary teachers and administrators a better understand of math and science and some tools and skills to effectively teach math and science. The benefits received from the TLC programs have exceeded the expectations I had when we started TLC several years ago.

TLC has always stuctured thir programs to meet the students' needs as the educational enviroment changes. So TLC needs to continue to do so.

I first became involved with TLC and their programming back in 2000. Their workshop offerings became an important component of my on-going professional development. TLC has helped me to stay current in the area of science. My use of formative assessments to help guide instruction and meet the needs of my students is due to classes offered by TLC. Their work with teachers focuses on on-going contact throughout the school year. This on-going contact enables teachers to meet, discuss challenges and develop solutions with their peers. Through their work with teachers, TLC is helping the students in Ohio gain knowledge and understanding in the areas of science and mathematics.

I've personally experienced the results of TLC through the science content understood by my fifth grade students. As a teacher, when I become more knowledgeable about my content areas, then my students will reap the benefits.

The TLC is an amazing organization. They consistently offer high quality professional development that is relevant and very rigorous. Every time I leave a professional development they offer I have lots of activities/games/ideas to take straight back to my classroom and school. The classes are typically spread out over time or offer online extensions. This has allowed me to collaborate with teachers outside of my school district and share successes and challenges. That open sourcing of information has allowed me to challenge myself as an educator and raise the level of instruction that my students have access to. While I love the rigor of the classes that is not what keeps me coming back. In teaching it is easy to feel helpless and isolated. The TLC has opened doors of collaboration within my building and beyond. Learning about teaching math is fun and I am often motivated to seek out more information online and in journals after leaving a class. The TLC is definitely getting it right! They understand that to lead high quality professional development that they must foster relationships, provide rigorous content, and offer information in a relevant way that is easily applied to the classroom.

...personal and professional growth. Although I cannot directly attribute this to the TLC, our OAA math test scores have improved significantly since a group of teachers in my building began attending workshops led by the TLC.

Offer even more classes. I know there are limitations because it is a non-profit.

TLC offers courses utilizing professors, current teachers and the most up-to-date research to develop lessons. Every topic covered was fun and full of lessons ready to carry into classrooms the next day for busy elementary teachers. I participated as a facilitator with 30+ years in the classroom. I spent much time learning new information and being so excited at the lesson possibilities. I would not hesitate to take one of their workshops or courses and know the activities they sell to be of top quality.

I first became familiar with TLC in 2003, when I discovered they offered mathematics training for teachers of grades K-3. I quickly begged to take the training for IMPACT 1 so I could offer the primary teachers in Knox County this opportunity. What resulted from that training is no less than amazing!!! Improving Mathematics Practices and Classroom Teaching has been the highlight of my entire career in education! I witnessed teachers who formerly had not enjoyed teaching math ~ AND students who didn't like math ~ decide they LOVED math! I continue to offer IMPACT training to primary teachers under TLC's direction. Kudos to you, Teaching & Learning Collaborative for a WONDERFUL program!!!

I took my first TLC course 6 years ago as a classroom teacher, which completely changed the way I taught mathematics. Two years ago I became a mathematics coach and currently have the pleasure of teaching the same class that changed my teaching, IMPACT 1, 2 & 3. Working for the TLC has been amazing because I am inspired by teachers who take our courses. They are so eager to learn and love trying the new lessons and activities in their own classrooms. I have also learned so much from other teachers and their experiences. My hope would be for all K-4 teachers to take any course offered by the TLC and have it funded through district PD money or grants!

I have worked with TLC for years in a number of programs. They have taken a lead in the state - and I would say set an example nationally - in 2 particular areas.Their more than 15 year old Math Teacher Leader program was continued from a prior organizational structure. They were a leader in the nation with the concept of math teacher leader, and now, as the elementary mathematics specialist initiative has developed nationally, the TLC provides an example of a quality program to train and support teacher leaders. In the second area of their leadership, the TLC's IMPACT program attends to the needs of primary grades teachers teaching mathematics. This often overlooked group is well supported through IMPACT, with a sustained and comprehensive program. The quality of the TLC programs is always a hallmark of their contributions!

I just wish they could have more funding and more human resource support for the work they do.
