Taking the Reins inspires underserved girls facing the challenges of adolescence in high risk environments. Our teens develop self-esteem, teamwork, responsibility and leadership skills principally through learning to ride and care for horses.

Reviews for Taking the Reins

Rating: 5 stars

Taking the Reins has a truly wonderful ability to provide hope where none existed by taking girls from under-served environments and allowing them the freedom and safety to explore new experiences. Over the years I have watched shy young girls, helped and supported by the wonderful people that staff this organization, grow into confident young women .

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Enduring friendships.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

It constantly grows and changes

Taking the Reins changed my daughter's life or in her words, "saved" her life and gave her hope and confidence and stability. During her many years in the program, she won an award in Middle School called "Came out of her shell" award. She looked forward to the program every Saturday during a very turbulent period in her home life when she then became my foster daughter and then adopted daughter. Thank you Taking the Reins for saving both OUR lives and enriching them beyond measure.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

saving my now daughter's life.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the joy of girls and horses enjoying a safe, harmonic environment no matter what is happening in their home/school lives.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

and are the very best of caring and committed and focussed to see these girls for the potential they all have.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

fund the property we want to purchase and ensure TTR's programs continue for many years to serve more of LA's teen girls.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every week

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?
