I have been up to SOS. A few times. Everytime I go I am amazed at just how nice the people are that give thier time to care for those awesome animals. You can tell the animals love the people by the way they act when they walk by there "homes". I have donated my time to help when I can, I just wish it was more. Judy is an wonderfull lady and always has a smile on her face when she is talking about her children, I mean animals.

I have been involved with the Charity 'industry' for years now; that of which includes our military, breast cancer and others. Sadly, I refer the above word as 'industry' because that is well to often the case when dealing with the charity executives and others. However, there is one group who actually embraces their role as keepers of our earth and our environment.....That group is Survival Outreach Sanctuary. They are the most ethical group I have dealt with thus far and it has been a full and complete pleasure dealing with them.

I have been a volunteer at Survival Outreach Santuary for three years. The animals at the sanctuary are the best cared for animal I have ever seen. I know first hand the great care they are getting. All cages are clean and water bowsl full. The tigers have swimming pools that are sparkling clean and the tigers lounge or play with with their balls in the water. Many play with toys and balls are in the cages. Judy, the director of SOS interacts with all animals daily. Each animal has a name and get personal attention from Judy and the volunteers. All the animals have been rescued from a harsh situations. It is amazing that they can learn to trust and interact with humans after what many have been through. SOS is a place where abused large cats can live out their lives in a safe environment with excellent care. There is a need to keep places like SOS open to provide a safe haven for the large cats. Any gifts to SOS is spent 100% on the animals. We need your help so can continue to help animals in need. Thanks. Joanie

The Survival Outreach Sanctuary provides a safe, caring home for the animals who live there. The fact that many of the animals are living past there expected life span is a testament to the excellent care they receive. I would encourage members of the public to come out and visit! You will be treated to an up close encounter with many different animals and an educational lecture on environmental issues.

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)
Yes, it gave me insight into how I want to spend my time in the future.
How did this volunteer experience make you feel?
It was very rewarding.
I have been a volunteer at SOS since September 2009. SOS is a truly remarkable place that provides excellent care to all tof he animals, from health to enrichment and much more. The animals have large, well maintained enclosures, even as the cost of supplies increases. With a staff consisting entirely of volunteers, 100 percent of all donations goes directly towards the care of the animals. I'm blessed to be a part of such a magnificent place.

I first visited Survival outreach sanctuary with my family at the age of 7. I am now 17 and have been with this wonderful sanctuary for 10 years. In my time there I have learned of all the animals habitats, diets, and lifestyles. Judy has taught me how to prepare the food for these amazing animals, feed them, and then steralize all the untencils and prep areas after feeding as to stop bacteria from growing on any of the equipment. She has taught me how to care for these animals, showing proper veterinary care, the right amount of space in an encloseure for the animal but also to give them the proper attention and love that the animal needs and deserves. Survival outreach sanctuary is an amazing place filled with warm people and loving animals that will touch your heart the moment you see them. I recommend anyone to came and see this wounderful place and experience the joy i do everytime I come to volunteer.

Although I have not been with Survival Outreach Sanctuary long, I can state that these last 3 months have been something of a dream for me. I have been taken back by just how happy all these animals truly are. Although they cannot speak, their body language says it all. Each one has their own personality and it has been a joy to learn what makes each one "smile". Judy could not do a better job of taking care of all her residents, providing each one personal care and attention. Enclosures are well beyond the requirements and set up in the most natural way. She cleans daily and only provides the best meat for them, having to specially grind the meat for one unique resident. Judy knows these animals like the back of her hand and can quickly pick up if something seems off. She is an amazing woman and I am beyond happy that I stumbled upon SOS. Volunteering here has been a pleasure and I encourage any and all people to stop by or lend a helping hand.

My students and I have volunteered at the Survival Outreach Sanctuary for over 11 years. Numerous students and their families have passed through the gates at SOS. On nature walks, they observed fallen trees returning back to nature and becoming homes to many organisms. They created brush piles from debris and watched to see signs of animal habitation. They learned about the importance of keeping the sanctuary natural, no mowing, even if it meant getting tangled in native blackberry bushes. The students also learned about the numerous native and endangered plants that have been identified on the property. SOS is not only a home to unwanted and abused animals, it also serves as a great teaching resource for students to see and learn about Florida's environment. Johnell Hankins--Science Teacher

I just spent an incredible weekend camping at SOS with my Roots & Shoots Group. Roots & Shoots, founded by Dr. Jane Goodall, is a global youth program designed to engage and inspire youth of all ages through service-learning projects. All Roots & Shoots groups plan and implement service projects showing care and concern in three areas: the environment, animals, and the human community. My middle school Roots & Shoots groups have been volunteering at the Survival Outreach Sanctuary for the past 10 years. Many of them are now in college and have continued to volunteer at the sanctuary. The kids and their parents had a great time this weekend. After helping with the usual chores, we went on a scavenger hunt, identified trees and types of leaves, noted evidence of wildlife on the property such as organisms living in a rotting log and evidence of animal activity around the log, we saw a woodpecker cavity, raccoon tracks in the sand, and identified numerous birds. We also went on a night hike and listened the sounds in the woods. Of course, there was someone hiding in the woods to scare us. The Survival Outreach Sanctuary is not just a refuge for rescued animals. Over the years Judy have participated in numerous outreach projects with my students. They have sat outside WalMart and handed out blue bags urging everyone to recycle. She has participated in the Great American Teach-In numerous times, and has traveled with me and spoke at Roots & Shoots events through out Florida. The Survival Outreach Sanctuary gets an A+ from this teacher. Johnell Hankins Chasco Middle School-Science

I am completing my second year of volunteering at Survival Outreach Sanctuary and am impressed by how much Judy Watson, sanctuary director, loves the animals she has rescued and now cares for. I have been helping three evenings a week to feed the animals. Each animal has their own feeding dish that contains food and the nutritional supplements that they specifically need. Not all animals have the same needs or food preparation. Some food is ground, some mashed, some sliced and diced. We know who does or does not like liver. Beef, chicken, and organ meats are needed each day. Cages are always clean and water bowls full. Cages are larger than what is required and filled with balls, a den, a swimming pool, and other items to enhance their quality of life. The animals have human contact each day. These animals seem to love human interaction. They will show off to get attention and make happy noises when they are near people. Each animal has a name that is displayed on their cage and is used when talking with them. Each animal is loved as an individual by Judy and the volunteers. Anyone who supports Survival Outreach Sanctuary can be assured that all donations are used for animal care and feeding. I love being a volunteer at SOS and plan to continue to serve this great non-profit agency.
