I became involved in S.S.O.T. after my son joined the Marine Corp. It warmed my heart the first time I volunteered for a packing to see so many people, unrelated, of all ages, many of whom did not have a family member currently serving our Country. The emotions I felt that day through watching members of my community joyfully turn a good deed toward young people like my son, who have given so fully to their Country; cemented my commitment in supporting this organization.

I along with my church youth group have worked with Summit Supports Our Troops for the past several years. Specifically, we have helped with packing for "Take our Troops to the Movies." This is a fabulous organization where every little bit of help is appreciated. The kids and I always feel great after having worked with SSOT and helping our troops.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

everything they do is to help our troops. They are always thinking of ways to ease our soldiers' time away. Not only do they help the soldiers, they also keep in contact with our troops' families. They essentially provide an extended family to so many.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

so appreciative of every bit of help you could provide. They are knowledgeable and so willing to give of themselves.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

provide so much more support for our troops and their families.

SSOT is the only organization in our area (that I know of) that is directly supporting our troops overseas. Sending care packages and raising awareness in our community of the fact that we have men and women in harm's way in far off places who want to hear from us is a vital part of this organization's charter. Having read some of the many letters received by SSOT from the troops that have gotten care packages from them, I realize what a wonderful service this small organization is performing.

communication.

When I was on combat duty as a combat infantrymen in the Korean War, this type of support was not available. The only thing we had was the USO and the Red Cross. The impact of this organization is appreciated in a very special and different way by us veterans. We know what it is like to be forgotten. I have directly observed the service that Summit Supports Our Troops provides to our troops. I am the father of one of the soldiers who continues to receive support, after serving 2 tours in Iraq, and now as a veteran and a National Guardsman. He told me that he and his buddies went wild from the over the top generosity of these volunteers, donors, and many communities who have gotten involved with this effort. It started with "one soldier, one family, and one community" and has touched people across the country.

I have had the priviledge to work with Chris and some of her amazing staff. What has been sent to our servicemen overseas reflects on their hard work and and the support of the entire Summit community.I wear my baseball hat where ever I go.

I'm very impresssed with Summit Supports Our Troops efforts to 1) support troops serving overseas -- e.g. send them food or toiletries (or school supplies for e.g. Iraqi school children) and 2) educate the public (including school children in our country)about our troops.

It was my pleasure to work with this organization last Memorial Day. The elementary schools in Summit attend a Memorial Day celebration. Last year we decided in addition to honoring veterans, we would also like to do something for those currently serving. SSOT gave us the opportunity. A list of most needed items was circulated to the 5 elementary schools. The children were to bring their contributions to the outdoor program along with a card and/or letter. The response was overwhelming. We had a 6 X 8 ft. trailer to collect the items... it was overflowing!!! It was a wonderful way for the children and the community to get involved... to DO SOMETHING to help those who are serving us! Dr. Chris Truhe was a tremendous help and resource, she made it possible. SSOT gives the 'ordinary citizen' a chance to thank those keeping us safe. It is an excellent way to let our children connect with those serving us.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

having a tangible way of making a difference. Watching the children's facing light up as they added their contribution. I'd like to think that a soldier's face lit up as he/she opened one of the packages we sent.
