Actually, the star rating is a 4.5, only because it's not easy! I've learned and grown a lot since being a Summer Searcher. I was a sophomore in high school. Things sucked and I believed that one day they would get better but I didn't know how that was going to happen. To make a long story short, Summer Search has been one of my many pittstops on the road to healing and happiness.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

how I've been able to discover my voice in a way that suits me best.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

get the parents more involved so that the nurturing I and fellow Summer Searchers received could continue in different aspects of life.

More feedback...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the consistency. There are some new faces as well, but those familiar faces really help me stay connected.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

motivators, compassionate, welcoming.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

make itself known to more people and continue to help others.

Ways to make it better...

I'd had a stronger connection with my counselor. Removing that counselor to client lens would have been helpful for us.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

continuing to grow so that it can do more and support others.

My experience with Summer Search has been great and has helped in developing my life. I am currently studying to become a Civil Engineer at UMass Dartmouth. My first Summer Search experience was in 2003 where I took my first plane ride to San Francisco; the program that I went on was the Environmental Traveling Companions. I kayaked, went water rafting, as well as other activities which helped me build character, courage, and strength. The second trip that I went on was to Pennsylvania, where I met a large amount of people at the Longacre Farm.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

my success in high school is due to the new found confidence that I obtained from my Summer Search trips

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

find a way to contact students while they were off in school, work, etc. For example set up on instant messenger or something of that sort that would allow students to touch base with mentors.

More feedback...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the fact that S.S. mentors care for the mental, and physical, and social well being of their students.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

effective, inspiring, motivations, encouraging in the work that they do

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

serve a greater community and would be globally known

Ways to make it better...

I became involved in more Summer Search events

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Remaining in contact with Summer Search students after the events. Some students tend to lose connection with Summer Search after graduating, it would be great if there was a transitional phase for students going into college or finishing college and going into the real world.

Well I must say that Summer Search had an immense impact in my life. I went to Oregon with Outward Bound on my first trip and then to Ghana on my second one. It was an amazing experience

Summer search has been a life changing experience for me. When I first heard about summer search I thought that it would just be a free trip during the summer, doing some outdoor stuff and traveling to another country. Little did I know that these trips and summer search as a whole would change my life, and turn me into the person that I have become. Talking with a mentor every week at summer search was hard in the beginning but it gave me an outlet to start talking about my feelings that I was keeping inside. For the first time I started to realize things about myself and I started understand how I was feeling. I kept things inside for so long that I did not even know how what was going on with myself. As I started to get a better understanding of myself I went on my first trip. During this trip I met an amazing group of people who had similar stories as mine, as we continued to talk I was able to confide in them things I was not able to confide in others and I was able to form a family with them. For the first time in my life I was actually happy. I look forward to doing all the activities and each day. I made friends that would last me to this day. With my second summer trip it was the same. I was able to form a bond with different people in a different country. Summer Search has helped me open up more and find out who I am as a person. To this day I am still trying to figure that out but with the help of summer search I have been able to have an idea. I have found out things I like , like being in the outdoors, and making that a part of my life. I decided to leave a big city, Boston, and go to school in a small town in Upstate New York and I love it. And if it was not for summer search I would not have even considered it.

I became a Summer Search student during my sophomore year of high school and just finished my first year in college. Summer Search served and continues to serve me..whenever I'm in need of some extra support or someone to talk to. They sent me to B.C. for fifteen days on an outdoor excursion trip and then to Costa Rica my second year. Summer Search is still a huge part of my life as it helps and supports me.

In m past 3 years with summer search i have discovered my self, my light and my joy. Back in high school i was a difficult, stubborn, ass hole of a person walking down a dark road. When i was discovered by Emily on our first meeting i just gave up and told her about my life. the bumpy road to my life like depression, family problems, and what i wanted to do in my life. after being accepted to Sumer search i was able to let go of things, understand more about myself, and find joy in my life. Currently i am a Summer Search Alumi, i have grown, found joy and satisfaction in my life.
