Before I went to starting artists, I believed that I was not an artistic person. I wrote and I read and I did my schoolwork, but i didn't draw or paint, or create visual art. Starting Artists brought me out of the mental box that i had created for myself. The materials were there, and the possibilities were endless, so i began to create things. Marisa helped me discover that i could be a visual and literal person at the same time. I learned how to use photoshop and other Adobe programs. I made amazing friends and great connections. Starting artists is like a second home for me--I always feel welcome and safe. Going to starting artists and meeting Marisa and Lacey has truly changed my outlook on things. And although I do not intend on pursuing a career in visual arts, I now know more about myself as an artist than I ever could have dreamed of knowing. Starting Artists provides a place for so many teenagers in my area to be themselves, and to discover themselves in knew ways. I truly love Starting Artists with all my heart, and i don't know who i would be today without it.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

every possible way. I go to Starting Artists nearly every weekday, and on weekends as well to help Marisa. The organization has changed the way i see the world, and for the better!

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

ban facebook and myspace from the computers.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the amazing knew things that I learn. I've learned a cacophony of paper crafts, how to make buttons, how to use photoshop and how to make a stop motion animation in after affects-- all in two weeks!!

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

amazing, and kind people. Marisa's very presence in a room is inspiring. She motivates my peers in I with everything that she does. She is truly amazing.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

change the world by reaching hundreds of thousands of children across the globe--and turning them into future leaders through the arts.

Ways to make it better...

there had been Golf Fish crackers all the time.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

abuse of the computers. Some kids who come to the organization only go on facebook and myspace and then leave. I feel that these people are abusing the space and the freedom that they have been given.

One thing I'd also say is that...

Although the freedom is a pert of what Starting Artists is about, i feel that it should be just a bit more strict.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every week
