9 years ago I got a letter in the mail from the Mission that prompted me to donate. Since then, I have suffered alcoholism, financial hardship, and depression, but I never stopped donating what little i could to the Mission, since they provide programs for people exactly like me. There are not enough rehab programs in the state of MA to serve the needs of people who suffer from this disease, but I'm proud to say I can help one that does. I am not a person of any organized religion but I do believe that generosity and love beget generosity and love and THAT is all that matters. The Mission is clearly doing that.

The Mission has been a fantastic resource for the folks who need help in physical ways, but also emotional, especially after the June 1st tornado that ripped through the Greater Spfld area! So many people affected - thanks for all those volunteers who were "on the streets" bringing food, water and comfort to those who lost property, to the security folks and construction workers. Wow - keep up the good service! I will continue to support these folks!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

seeing lived changed. Men who have been in the rehab program come in broken or lost - they go through a transition and eventually have direction in their lives.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

give them a brand new building that is bigger to serve more people. Also, more "Operation SONshine" vans!

We appreciate the work of the Springfield Rescue Mission. We exist in a partnering relationship with them. When people come to our Church with lives controlled with addiction, we have the resource of the Mission to connect with. We have sent several men to the Mission.

Some men in the
Mission program, in transition living at the Worthington St. facility, or newly out on their own have made our Church their church.

We are grateful for a partner able to provide quality service to those beyond our ability and expertise. We financially support the work of the Mission.

Technically I am a client served via the Capitol City Rescue Mission of Albany, NY, however this opportunity to offer my support of a sister mission is a great one.
My name is Anthony McCann. I lived in and was a member of the "New Life Christain Disciple Certificate" program at the Albany
rescue mission in 2009-10.
The many services that my mission and indeed all missions across the country provide are essential to the sustaining of neighborhoods where they are located. Principal services that allow one to regain a sense of order and direction (hope) is readily provided and necessary.
My experience allowed me to become a truste member of the mission and to work as a intake desk volunteer on Weekend evenings. needless to point out all things happen from 4pm - midnight at the mission. My training and spiritual advancement enabled me to offer hope and encouragement to men of all walks of life. I grew and God's development of my spiritual purpose on earth has been identified and now I live to serve.
Perhaps $5000.00 doesn't appear like much to those who are gainfully employed, however to aid in the furtherance of the missions statement and purpose, this is a fortune. I thank God daily for my landing in th Capitol City Rescue Mission and I thank all administrative and general staff, esp. my pastor councelor, Rev. Don Lyons. to God be the glory for the things He has already done in the lives that rescue missions touch.
If I can be of further assistance, please contact @ (860) 913-3136 or via email: anthonymccann2000@yahoo.com
Blessings!

As a long time donor and volunteer, the Mission is very close to my heart. I have a family member that could benefit from the Mission, but unfortunately, he is not in the area. I admit to starting my volunteer work and financial support for selfish reasons - it simply made me feel as if I were helping my Brother. I soon came to realize the joy it brings me to work with the staff in this ministry. I have seen first hand the transformation of many of the men that have gone through the 12 month program - and will continue to support this Christian organization in any way I can.

Feedback from the resident's in the men's program have been very rewarding. They appreciate even the slightest statement of encouragement.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Not change a thing - except support the in their efforts to expand both in terms of the physical location and numbers of men, women and children they assist each day.

I am not only a donor, but I have volunteered at the mission, I have attended one of the graduation services, and I have toured the mission.
What a phenomenal ministry. The fact that they offer meals, overnight lodging at the mission is great, but they also go out into the streets and offer
food (which I did), and other items like Hope Totes and Back Packs for school.
The one year program that the Springfield Rescue Mission offers to men to help them find a place in the community is beyond what I could imagine. To witness these men graduating at the end of their one year was so meaningful and to hear their stories how they have (in some cases) reunited with family brought tears to my eyes.
I don't have enough words to describe what a great job the Springfield Rescue is doing in the Springfield area.

I am a local area Pastor of Music & Worship and I have had several opportunities to serve at the mission. They are an have been an example of faithfulness and generosity through the years and their recovery program is well run and thorough. They have made a major impact for good not only on the men who regularly find shelter and healing from life's storms but also on the community at large with their Thanksgiving meals, Operation Sunshine runs (which distribute food to needy family within Springfield) and their program to collect school materials packed in a backpack for underprivileged children beginning their school year.

Volunteer my time, which others have done, to help renovate certain areas of the building. The building they are using is older and would benefit from renovation.

For the time you spent, how much of an impact did you feel your work or activity had?

Life-changing

Did the organization use your time wisely?

Very Well

Would you recommend this group to a friend?

Definitely

What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?

More time could be spent in debriefing a group before serving in Operation Sunshine regarding details of what to expect and things to look for in the community.

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

I met several men who were involved in the program and have been able to encourage them in their journey. I was also touched by the need for basic necessities withing the Springfield area.

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

It made me fee like I had made a difference in people's lives who really needed it.

Although I no longer live in Springfield, I know of the good work of the Springfield Rescue Mission from friends that still live in the city. I am happy to donate to the Rescue Mission because of the testimonials I do receive from those friends, one of whom once resided briefly at the Mission but is now not only employed but a business owner who is himself an employer.

I have been volunteering for two years serving dinner once a week at the Springfield Rescue Mission. This Mission has a staff, especially Mr. Willoughby, that clearly cares about all the residents in every way. Their goal is to assist the residents with finding jobs and being prosperous and contributing members of society. The wonderful work this Mission does for the community is also amazing. I have also gone on Operation Sunshine trips where the Mission serves lunch to the homeless and hungry people on Springfield Streets I recommend the Springfield Rescue Mission without any hesitation,

These are the folks that we sent the bulk of the Little Drummers' Winter Coat Drive donations to. They were, hands down, the friendliest and most organised people we worked with. We will be happy to donate in the future, even though we live an hour away, just because they were SO pleasant! They are really great people doing wonderful work. Kudos to them!
