That's odd, I have been to the SPCA of Westchester numerous times...adopted both my dogs and a cat there and have had a few feral cats spayed/neutered there and everyone was wonderful...the staff and volunteers were all very friendly and helpful. The shelter animals were also very well taken care of compared to some other animal shelters I have seen. I feel very bad that your cat escaped, but it sounds like it was an honest mistake. To judge a charity as a whole based off of one isolated experience is a shame when they do so much good for the community.

I had a horrifying experience with this organization. I am a longtime donor who took a stray cat in to be neutered. When I left the Simpson Clinic, the tech had not latched the crate properly and my cat, Chubbers, hit the gate, got out and ran away. The techs came out to look for him but we never found him. I wrote an email later, asking they refund my 185 dollars neuter fee. Today I got a call from the executive director who told me techs in the parking lot (I was alone in the lot) saw someone "hovering over the cage), again I was alone. When I told her that, she back-pedaled, blaming my faulty cage which was fine when I took the cat it that morning. Shannon Laukhuf was unsympathetic and didn't even try to make a heartbroken pet owner feel better as much as assign blame. To me. Very disheartening. I'll find another animal charity to give my dollars to.
