We help break the cycle of homelessness by offering services, such as affordable housing, job training, addiction treatment, and counseling, to the poor, the elderly and individuals with mental illness.
Programs:

Each day, SOME serves more than 800 nourishing to hungry and homeless men, women and children in its Dining Rooms.  Guests are served a hot breakfast and lunch by volunteers and staff members.  The Dining Rooms are open 365 days a year and all are welcome.  Homeless men and women are also able to take hot showers and change into clean clothing in the adjacent Shower Room.  For many guests, the Dining Room is a first step towards more lasting change through our health care, job training and addiction treatment programs.

I've worked with SOME on a professional basis over the past eight years in helping to promote the thanksgiving walk for hunger. a wonderful, spirited, genuinely caring group of people. My church is also involved with some in the "chili making" project. It really has taught my children over the years - as they make chili- to include the less fortunate in their thoughts and prayers. Very proud to be associated with them.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

watching the "Walk for Hunger" get bigger and bigger every year.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I have no suggested changes. I wish i had time to help and assist more throughout the year.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Father John Adams, Tracy Monson, and Linda Perisis - working with them - being inspired by their giving spirit.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

kind, caring, hard-working.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Wow - it could get our DC's displaced people all sorts of professional (health / mental health) assistance.

Ways to make it better...

My experience is always good....their goals are lofty / all good. i feel very fortunate to know them.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

cuts & our displaced population feeling hopeless and alone.

One thing I'd also say is that...

best wishes and prayers to SOME in Washington, DC.

I don't know how DC's needy populations would survive without this incredible organization. They meet their clients where they live and the provide for the most basic needs, including medical.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

change the face of homelessness in the DC Metro area.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?
