I have had the pleasure of working with the CET center for several years now. My company has employed approximately 7 individuals, and 6 are still here! I believe this successful program is due to the particular model they use. They address ALL barriers to success, not just job training. Substance abuse issues, housing, day care, medical care - all impact a person's ability to be successful in a job. I have worked with other organizations, and have not had the success I have experienced working with SOME CET.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Watching those that we have hired be successful in their jobs. It's been a great experience seeing the lives of these individuals change.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

More feedback...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Working with the staff and the students. Making successful placements of the graduates.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Very dedicated, hard working, and have the sincere desire to help others.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Provide even more job training and resources to individuals to enable them to be successful members of society.

Ways to make it better...

My company had more employment opportunities to provide to the graduates.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

The economy. Employers, such as mine, have limited opportunities for jobs.

One thing I'd also say is that...

More organizations should use the SOME CET model for success. It works.

I am currently a student of the S.O.M.E. Center For Employment Training. This is an awesome program for people to come and get vocational training or enhance the skills that they already possess. The courses offered are Medical Administration, Building Maintenance, and Businiss and Customer Relations. I believe that the students are at an advantage because we recieve hands on instruction from someone who has actually worked in the field that they are teaching. We are very fortunate to have a staff of caring and sincere people who work very hard every day to give 100 percent of their time and effort to each and every student. We have human development that tackle problems in certain behaviors, habits and mindsets, career development that prepare students for the workplace by way of creating resumes and other employee documents, interviewing techniques, and how to seek employment through differnet venues, student services such as barrier reduction to make sure that there are no obstacles to stand in the way to hinder the success of the students. The Center For Employment Training focus on the "whole person" individually. I would recommend this program to anyone that need it.

After 35 years, I retired from the practice of law and looked for a place to volunteer my services for people in need. I contacted SOME and was told that they were in need of a basic math tutor for their C.E.T. program. I told them I would be happy to give it a try. Four years later I am still tutoring two days a week, approximately 3 hours per session. I primarily tutor the trainees in the building maintenance program. For me this has been a particularly rewarding experience and based upon feedback from the trainees, I believe it has been equally rewarding for them. I have seen trainees learn or re-learn basic math skills which has permitted them to obtain rewarding employement and to become responsible citizens in the Washington, D. C. area.

My name is Petria Pierce and I entered C.E.T. On June 30th 2009 since I been in C.E.T. The staff has worked with me very closely to help me develope some skills, so i can remove myself out of poverty so that I can become a productive member of society again. When I arrived at C.E.T. I must admitt I did not think I would make it again in a classroom setting, The staff here at C.E.T. has gotten me through many hurdles besides my education. I am truly greateful having an oppurtunity to graduate from C.E.T. I would love to give praise to the Career Developement Department for showing me how to write a resume and how to answer question that employers may ask. I did not know half of the things that was taught to me. I want to take this oppurtunity to thank everyone who played apart in my life today and again thank you C.E.T. I am a winner.

I was unemployed and looking for a school I walked into the salvation army with a relative and saw the flyer posted and on the flyer it said paid tuition and help with transportation now I thought to myself it sounds good but said how many other schools have said those exact same things and didn't deliver( they really did come through as they said they would). I really wanted to attend school so I call to find out what was needed of me to come in and apply, I got there and was very impressed I've heard of SOME but had no idea they had a training school. The only thing that made me nervous about the whole process was waiting for the phone call to tell me if I was accepted or not but it was definitely worth the wait. The support from your peers and the staff was phenomenal I had never been around that many positive people in my life they make you want succeed and grow I graduated in April 2008 and I continue to grow I've been employed going on 2 years with a great company and continue to push forward. Thanks CET and staff for everything!!!

I highly recommend the Center for Employment Training Program as I am a former student and now an employee. While training as an medical administrative assitant I learned medical termology, healthcare protocol and as well MS Word and Excell. The programs instructor was very engaging, professiona and knowledgeable. I am currently employed by So Others Might Eat as an Human Resource Assistant and the skills I received from C.E.T. have help me reach my goal of earning a decent salary and giving back to my community. I am grateful to the staff at Center for Employment Training for consistently going the extra mile for all who who strive for a more productive life. Sincerely, Michelle Boardley

I was fired from my job after 8 years of employment. I applied for assistance and was sent through the standard programs that DC offers for job training, my confidence was low and I felt that I needed more training. I was fearful of failing and being out of a job or being on welfare forever. I found the handout for CET through the ARCH Jobs (a job readiness program in the District). The process was easy to get in, I applied one week and started the following week. I was defeated and fearful in the beginning, I was able to open up about those concerns and work with them the entire time that I was enrolled. The staff was always open, always ready with a open mind and understanding heart. The closer it got to graduation I didn't want to leave. I didn't have to worry the staff was still there while I was in job search. They stayed on top of me and still after 3 years they still know me by name and I know that if I need anything that they are just a phone call away. I really thank them for helping me get my confidence back and being able to enter in my career.

I was having a rough time and was introduce to the SOME program. After going to an appoitment and hearing all that SOME had to offer I was very impressed. I later enrolled in the SOME Center for Employment Training program. At CET I have learned so much. I have enhanced my Admin. Assistant skills in typing, Microsoft Office Suite, writing skills, public speaking, and so much more. I'm in the Business Customer Relations Associate course. I also have a wonderful instructor named, Mr. John Adams. He has taken the time to make sure that whatever a position is looking for that his students has that skill. I also took and passed my GED in Sept. 2008 with the encouragement for CET. I feel now that I have the confidence to go out into the work force and secure a career job. Let me not forget to mention the other programs that I have supported SOME in as well. They had a awesome program for addicts. I'm not a addict but some of my classmates are and I go to the events that SOME celebrates with them for their recovery. SOME is one of the BEST Nonprofit organizations I have been introduce to. And I know that their doors are open for the ones that need their services. SOME--keep up the AWESOME job you do!

My experience here at SOME/CET has been the very best decision I've made in my life. When I came here I didn't have any job skills at all. Now I am proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. My self esteem has risen beyond estimate. I feel extremely confident in talking with people and in front of groups of pleople due to our presentations that we do every week in the BCRA class. The whole program is AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
