My 7th and 8th grade students have worked with the Saturday Light Brigade (SLB) for past two years on an outstanding project entitled Allegheny Voices. This entire project came into being after a casual conversation I had with Larry Berger and Jeff Barron of SLB. I was mistaken that our conversation was casual. A few weeks later, Larry and Jeff presented an outlined plan which included the core ideas of our conversation and proposed how we can expand upon it by working with the Andy Warhol Museum. I was blown away. SLB spearheaded the task of organizing this project and provided a variety of training and technical resources to our students throughout the process. The trainings included everything from interviewing techniques, to proper use the digital equipment and to editing digital media, just to name a few. They also opened the doors of SLB for our students to conduct their interviews in the studio. What I found most amazing was that while SLB was working with our students on the Allegheny Voices project, they were concurrently facilitating other unique educational projects throughout the city. The magnitude of opportunities SLB provides our community to expose our youth to new experiences, does not seem possible with such a small full-time staff. But after working with them, these past two years I can attest that their dedication and enthusiasm to provide unique opportunities to children is contagious… which makes it possible for them to impact so many.

My wife and I have been listening to the Saturday Light Brigade for more that 25 years. As host, Larry Berger brightens Saturday mornings with guests, jokes, games and anecdotes in a wonderfully entertaining mix of local color.

I have listened to SLB for years. The program features great folk and children's music. Also, it involves listeners with interesting games and trivia. It's great programming for progressive families; somehow it seems best enjoyed in the kitchen listening on a table radio.

This radio program is the best in Pittsburgh and most likely in the whole United States. I found it while on my way to work one Saturday...about 15 years ago, and Ive been hooked ever since! This is a great way for families to connect and spend time with each other! The interviews are great and the music and games are wonderful for all ages! I cant imagine a Saturday without the Saturday Light Brigade

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
their all-inclusive approach to both the young and old, families and singles and casual listener and steady listener alike.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
all wonderful down to earth people! Their enthusiasm for the Saturday Light Brigade is contagious and wonderful to see.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
broadcast more locally, nationally and internationally so that the whole world could be entertained and educated!
Ways to make it better...
this radio program could be on more stations throughout the area. It is not always easy to get reception in all of the Pittsburgh area.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
the financial constraints of independent radio stations.
One thing I'd also say is that...
Larry Berger and his wife Rikki are the heart and soul of the show and are truly committed to this wonderful radio program!

I coordinator exhibitions at the Society for Contemporary Craft. SLB Radio had me on their morning show to talk about some of the exciting programing we were offering that week with our new exhibition. It is a wonderful thing that the SBL introduces children and their parents to all of Pittsburgh's amazing cultural places and activities!!

Saturday Light Brigade, their radio show, their crew, and their educational programs are an amazing asset for our community that often goes under appreciated. Larry Berger's passion for education, for community building, and for showcasing young talent and family friendly entertainment is phenomenal, and it reveals itself in the quality of all of Saturday Light Brigade's productions. Though I did not have the benefit of growing up with the Saturday Light Brigade as a tradition in my family as I was raised in an area outside of its broadcasting range, I still listen to it regularly as an adult for the unique, uplifting music and the amazing live talent that it features. I also have dozens of friends who grew up listening to SLB as a child and still regularly tune in to get their weekend off to a great start!

We at Animal Friends are so grateful to the staff at SLB. They welcome our non-profit onto the air to introduce adoptable pets and news from our animal shelter. We are able to reach families who can provide loving, lifelong homes to animals that deserve a second chance. We can also deliver news to families about our camps and classes and other opportunities for kids to come learn at Animal Friends. SLB is a great resource to our community and we are grateful for the relationship.

We have been working with SLB Radio for about a decade. Every time our organization is interviewed or plays a live broadcast, the SLB staff goes above and beyond to ensure a positive experience for our artists. Many of our performers are from out of town and are only here for a few weeks out of the year for our performances - but the highlight of their trip to Pittsburgh is often getting to play on SLB's show because of the exposure and friendliness of people they meet when they go. We look forward to working with SLB every chance we get. Their programming not only benefits arts organizations like ours, but families, children, and communities across the state. Thanks, SLB.

My experience with SLB is always positive. Larry Berger and his staff are so easy to work with. I've had the pleasure of working with them several times with our after school program students, and our summer volunteer high school students. They're all very professional, friendly and able to make the students feel very comfortable. I've seen them bring to life an otherwise, quite and shy student. They're the BEST!
