I've known SkyCross' founders Terry and Kathy Bliquez for years. Since they founded Sky Cross, I was led to become involved after my husband and I founded our own consulting firm. When we became aware of their need for a website, Carl and I donated the resources the charity needed to help get their message out to a broader audience. I was fortunate to be able to participate in one of the Sky Cross deliveries from pick up to transport and final delivery to a needy community nearby Nuevo Laredo. The children and families were so appreciative of these deliveries, it was not difficult to recommit to the organization's mission. When we donate to Sky Cross, and when we are asked about charities, we make sure our friends learn about Sky Cross' unique approach - 100% of all donations go directly to efforts and support of their needy community. After all these years, Sky Cross has been able to stick to this premise. This is why I believe Sky Cross is a 5 Star charity.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

visits to the communities Sky Cross supports and in conversation with friends who are seeking a donor who uses contributions solely for services, not for G&A or overhead.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

include a statement in Sky Cross literature, paper and online, that describes how the organization plans to preserve it's core values of pure volunteerism for the future.

During my time on active duty I became a donor of Sky Cross. Their work along the Texas/Mexican border is of the greatest importance. They provide food, and medical supplies to the poorest villages along the border. I have been a supporter for almost 10 years thru the Combined Federal Campaign. Col (ret) Bliquez and his staff ensure 100% of proceeds go to the needs of the charity. This organization lives by their Christian creed of helping the poor and orphans. I am proud to say that I have been associated with this organization. Mr. Bliquez and staff send out frequent and uplifting reports of progress and needs. Rick Boger, SMSgt, USAF Retired

SKY Cross is an organization dedicated to serve the poor, providing them with food for the body, and hope for the soul. I have been blessed to serve as a volunteer for over 3 years, and I am amazed of how the services are completely provided by volunteers. Colaboration is indeed a great component of this nonprofit, and the connections established with people on both sides of the border, allow the food and donations to go directly to those most in need. Poverty shows it's ugliest face on border towns, and Sky Cross brings food to nurture bodies, so families can focus on work and education for their children. This is truly a "people helping people" organization, with no CEO or CFO, but true servant leaders doing good works.

Personally, I am involved in many volunteer projects at my church. I was busy, but the 'feeling' was not present. It was more like 'busy' work than that of a self-fullfilling type of work. I had heard of Skycross and the only thing I knew of it was that they collected blankets and coats/jackets and flew them to the border region for distribution. Well, I decided to give them a call so I contacted Terry Bliquez and told him that I had a full-size pickup that was at his disposal whenever he needed it. Well, he welcomed me with open arms and told me that he was going to put me to 'work' ASAP. We loaded my truck and a one-axle trailer with provisons and drove five hours one way; unloaded and chatted with the non-profit at the other end; and drove five hours back. What a feeling! Never, I mean NEVER had I had a feeling of accomplishment - a feeling of actually seeing the fruits of labor (if one can call it 'labor'). It was stunning! I told Terry: "I want to do it, again". We had been going to the border at least twice a month. The last time was two weeks ago when we took blankets/jackets/pillows and clothes. I am ready to do it again, soon. My wife and I are blessed that we have a pickup that is paid for; that we can afford two tankfulls fo gas per trip; and that we are healthy enough to support this fine organization. My only regret is that I didn't step forward soon enough to assist Terry and his fine orgabization, Skycross.

I have visited the non-profits at the receiving end and saw one of their distribution points. They are needy people helping needy people. Compared to them, we are so blessed. Therefore, I have seen the last stage of the distribution process save for the distribution itself and I am proud and content that I am but a cog in this vast wheel!

I am not privileged to see how the operation is managed for I am at the bottom of the totem pole. And from the bottom looking up - it is WORKING! I learned early in life - if it is working - don't mess with it. It's working great at my level.

I am a Deacon in the Cathoic Church. I regulary am blessed to help this charity. When I see these poorest of the poor and assist in food, medical supplies and cloths, I am gratified and to see the thousands who are sustained by the work of Sky Cross. The graditude which is shown by these poor along the Texas and Mexico border - and into Mexice - gives perspective to how blessed we are and is a model of what it means to give thanks to God for the basic needs of life. In additon as the years go by it is even more wonderful to see how the lives of the people are lifted up since their basic needs are met allowing the missionaries to educate the children because Sky Cross keeps them fed and healthy.

I have served with Sky Cross as a volunteer for 11 years. I am proud of the fact that 100% of all donations received goes directly to serve the poor. I have seen some truly amazing things that have happened due to the work of Sky Cross. I have seen malnourished children with no shoes and only the clothes on their backs grow into adults who have had their lives changed. I have watched these people that lived in shacks with dirt floors go on to complete their education in high school, trade school, and college. I have watched them break the cycle of poverty they were trapped in and become attorneys, pharmacists, priests, trade workers, etc. due to the help of Sky Cross. With God's help I hope to continue my work with this organization as long as I am able.

I am involved with Sky Cross, Inc. because I am impressed with the fact 100% of the donations from the public go to the poor along the Mexico/Texas border. There is no paid staff, but rather all volunteers who pay for their expenses from their own pocket, leaving all of the donations to go to the purpose of the ministry...feeding the poor, providing used clothing, and medications.

SKY CROSS, INC. is a small non-profit, tax exempt charity organization. Everyone who works for or with SKY CROSS does so as a volunteer. This way, 100 percent of all funds donated go directly to purchase food and medical supplies. All donations are fully tax deductible. The work in and around the border areas are performed by missionaries. An additional 70-80 volunteers provide SKY CROSS with a continual supply of clothes, medical supplies, donations and help. SKY CROSS needs monthly and occasional monetary donors to purchase bulk food items. Basic medical supplies are needed for the clinics. Although the peole are caught in the middle of poverty and drug cartels, when we visit, you see a smile on their faces. It makes you want to do more for them as they have so little.

A wonderful organization of a few extremely dedicated people making a huge difference in the lives of a lot of very poor people. The need is so great and the poverty is so extreme that most people cannot imagine the lives that the poor endure along the border. They are caught in a war between drug cartels and corrupt government officials and unrelenting poverty and hunger. Yet, somehow, they retain the ability to smile, and to hope for a better future.

SkyCross is the only Charity that has not slowed down one bit becasue of the violence in Mexico. Because we are embedded among the people our operations have continuedthe support the poor along the border while many other organizations have gone else where. All the board and volunteers are non paid in fact most of us are donors so more than 100% of donations go to the poor. It is now in this time of violence that the children need us more desperately. We who support SkyCross.com are blessed ten fold. michael kenny lubbock texas
