Sisters4Sisters is an organization in a class of it's own. I am proud to be a founding member of S4S and a longtime friend of the Founder, Carolyn White-Washington. Carolyn's initial vision was to start a book club, but, after only one meeting at her home she seen the need for something much bigger. There was a room full of women including myself who were wounded, broken or just lost. We may have looked picture perfect on the outside, but, on the inside we were quietly wondering if anyone else in the room was going through, been through, or was perhaps getting ready to enter into a situation like ours. The monthly meeting quickly became a place to fellowship and here you found help, hope, light and love, and even if you said nothing about your personal situation you would find that someone in the room had been where you were and made it through. That someone pushed past their pain, stood firmly on their obstacles and reached higher for their true purpose in life. To have someone who doesn't even know you reach out and embrace your situation, encourage you and uplift you is nothing but a blessing and a reason to keep moving forward. Over the past 12 years Sisters4Sisters, Inc. has had such an impact over women and girls of all ages. I know first hand, because, I was one of those women, being a single mother of three beautifully adopted children, I was in need of emotional support and resources and Sisters4Sisters, Inc. put me in touch with a lady by the name of Janie Hayes, who specializes in family services. My niece benefited from this group. My niece who has been a member of Sisters4Sisters, Inc. since age 4 as such fond memories of feeling like she truly belonged and had a say in what affected youths and teens. She is now 16 years old and had the opportunity to speak to other young girls at the 2010 PossibiliTEAS Event hosted by Sisters4Sisters, Inc. and encouraged them to get involved with Sisters4Sisters, Inc., Daughter's of Destiny Program for support, encouragement and mentoring that will build their self esteem. My mother gained a sense of belonging and self esteem. Mother now proudly holds her head up high and looks forward to contributing to community services and other events that Sisters4Sisters, Inc. are involved in. We are talking about a generation of women in just one family whose lives have changed because of the out pour of support, resources, and even financial assistance Sisters4Sisters, Inc. has provided. Sisters4Sisters, Inc. makes countless efforts to support the community, they feed and clothe the homeless, offer workshops on HIV/Aides Awareness, Transition from Welfare to Work, activities for young girls, Domestic Violence Advocate, Healthy Living, Starting Your Own Business. Toys-Tots, Back-To-School and Suit Up For Success drives, just to name a few. Even with such a small budget, Sisters4Sisters, Inc. made my kids dreams come true by financially contributing to their dream trip to Disney in 2010. Please continue to endorse Sisters4Sisters, Inc. and know that their services are truly needed and a blessing to many.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
away that has movitivated me to start my own organization to help underprivileged kids in the community I live in.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Provide the founder with resources needed to staff her business and have have more time to for her own family.
