We were almost burned out and between churches and took a three-month sabbatical. Staying at Shepherd's Refuge Selah Ministries was a breath of fresh air - both spiritually and literally! It's been a few years now and I'm ready to go back! We can heartily recommend the ministry to anyone in need and for those willing to support. Brent & Cindy Farmer

In 2007 my wife and I felt led to resign a 15 year pastorate without another ministry to begin. We were not forced out, but felt that we had done all we could in the present charge.
We knew we needed some time away, and took a three-month sabbatical at our own expense, to
prepare for the next phase of our ministry. We spent a week at Shepherd's Refuge and it was such a refreshing, uplifting, quiet, and healing time. Just to be in that beautiful setting and focus upon the Lord was rejuvenating. Sandy & Ruedi were such gracious hosts and made us feel like family and so comfortable in their home and lives.
The only time I wish we were wealthy is when I wish I could help support what they do. God's hand of blessing is upon this ministry that I am sure has helped so many of His servants continue in and be refreshed for their ministry, as it did for us.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Continuing in pastoral ministry as a result of time away and the spiritual reformation I experienced.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Although it's been a few years ago and changes may have already been made, what I experienced was perfect for what I needed at that time. I can think of nothing I would have changed. They were preparing to build cabins when we were there, and I could see the privacy of that being even better, although the apartment we stayed in was very private.

In addition to serving as missionaries, my wife and I are responsible for our parents (all above 77) so getting away for a brief respite from the combination of responsibilities that God has entrusted us with is essential. Shepherds Refuge is just what its name implies - a quiet, comfortable refuge from the challenges of our daily lives. Ruedi and Sandy were wonderful to be with and encouraged us greatly. Their ministry is a great blessing to God's servants and we look forward to returning.

I had the wonderful opportunity to visit Shepherd's Refuge last year. It was an amazing experience! I was at a point of transition in my life where I needed to hear from the Lord and at the same time needed a much-needed break. Shepherd's Refuge was truly the place to visit. I was
able to get away from my normal everyday task to a place of beauty, peace and tranquility. Ruedi and Sandy were great setting up a peaceful atmosphere. They also created a wonderful balance of interaction and solitude. I was able to commune with God and find rest for my weary soul. I would encourage any Pastor to visit. You will be blessed! It will be an unforgettable experience!

As co-pastors of an inner-city congregation for over 25 years needing an opportunity for R & R, we found the relaxed setting of the Shepherd’s Refuge and the generous hospitality of our hosts a spiritually renewing experience. The facilities were more than adequate with lots of options for indoor reading, viewing, and fellowship and for outdoor hikes and observation. Sandi and Reudi’s willingness to share their table and their own personal experiences resulted in encouragement for our own minds, bodies, and souls. We returned to our city, ready to resume our work with the awareness that God’s special ministers in other places are concerned about the well-being of people like ourselves.

We first met the Mettlers in 2009 on our first visit to Shepherd's Refuge. We desperately needed a break and refreshing. The Mettlers make great hosts for your retreat to the beautiful mountains of north GA. You'll get healthy foods, fresh and clean air, and a compassionate ear if you need it.

With nearly 20 yrs. experience as a full-time Christian Counselor, and my wife with her 30 yrs. as an RN, we both were nearing burn-out. Even with the greatest faith and very best intentions any of us may discover from time to time that we have become "weary in our well-doing" ... amen? So, it was with us when we discovered Shepherd's Refuge in the N. GA mountains. What a beautiful, restful place . . . hosted by the nicest folks you'll ever meet. We highly recommend this great retreat to any and all who need a few days to really "get away" from the cares and concerns of life and ministry. It will truly be a blessing to you and your weary spouse. Jesus said, "Come unto Me and I will give you rest."

In 2007 my husband and I needed a place to get away to seek the Lord. We are ordained ministers and we were in the middle of so much change in our lives, that it was difficult to hear from the Lord. The Lord spoke to us to get away for some time of prayer.

We heard through another friend
who is a Pastor about Sheperds Refuge, and decided to make a call. Ruedi and Sandy got us in the doors quickly (which we so much appreciated). And we began our time of prayer and seeking the Lord.

The time there was SO refreshing, I can not even describe. Ruedi and Sandy were perfect hosts. They gave us our space but were there to cater to our every need. Wonderful conversation and meals when we wanted company. My husband and I spent a lot of time on the deck praying and waiting on the Lord to speak to us. Before the long weekend was over. The Lord spoke to both my husband and myself at exactly the same time confirming what it was we needed to hear. I really believe that if we did not have the Sheperd's Refuge to go to the summer of 2007 that we would have missed what God was speaking to us to do. We will always be thankful to Ruedi, Sandy and the people who support the Rufuge for having that time and the place to get before the Lord.

Thank you again, Ruedi and Sandy.
