The Shady Shakespeare company consistently produces two Shakespeare plays and one other quality play every season. Their productions are always well-done, witty and interesting. They mak Shakespeare accessible to people (children for free!) and they engage their audience. It is no wonder they have a host of vu\olunteers - they love the community and the community loves them back.

We haven't missed a production in years - we are supporting members, and donating beyond the membership, loooking for matching funds and grants for them . You could, and should, too!

We have been coming to Shady Shakespeare plays for 4 or 5 years now, every summer is highlighted by the experience. When it was free we donated wholeheartedly at the end of the play, now that tickets cost money we became "Swan" members - and donated some more. The plays are always well executed, in acting and directing, in the great sets and lighting - the Shady Shakespeare experience is always unique and exhilarating. Another great thing is the free admission to school children - promoting culture and art to youths.

I have been involved with Shady Shakes as a volunteer for about 6 years. I sign up to help out with 2 or 3 things every year, and never miss a show. Each show is uniquely theirs while retaining everything Shakespeare and being highly entertaining and very well done. They are a pleasure to work with and work for. The Board of Directors and Creative Manager come up with incredible ideas each year that work and make Shakespeare feel right up to date! I love each and every one of the actors, crew and volunteers! They make it fun to come back year after year.

My commitment to Shady Shakespeare Theatre Company began three years ago when I became a board member and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Working with the SSTC staff, fellow board members and especially with our fantastic volunteers, has been extremely rewarding. We are a passionate group and I am proud to be part of an organization that believes in the ability of Shakespeare’s works to speak to contemporary audiences.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

working with our experienced and talented volunteer base.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

like a full-time fundraiser who could guarantee that we would always be able to provide FREE Shakespeare in Sanborn Park.

I just joined the board this year after volunteering for 3 years. Shady puts on top notch productions and does an amazing job of creating a two story stage out in the middle of a remote park. It's something that every kid will remember about their summer up in the "Shady" grove. It's also a great group of people who work well together.

I would find more volunteers.

I'm proud to say I've been involved with Shady Shakespeare as a Board and committee member since 2005. It's been an absolute pleasure to assist what began as a fledgling theatre group on a shoestring budget grow into a diverse and active company that boasts three main stage shows a year, a growing summer theatre education program and other educational offerings. Shady Shakespeare does an excellent job of reaching out to it's audience and de-mystifying Shakespeare with unique interpretations, humor, creativity and energy. To hear the laughter and see the delight in the faces of the audience members (especially the youngsters!) during the productions is one of the reasons I enjoy assisting Shady in it's mission. These are kind, creative people who are producing a free-to-the-public, quality product for everyone.

The Great!

My children have watched the performances and understand everything. No small feat when you consider that these were children who made faces when I mentioned going to watch Shakespeare because they thought that "Shakespeare is too hard" to understand. Shady Shakespeare helps break down those kinds of misconceptions!

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would love to see Shady have administrative offices and a permanent theatre of it's own!

I started working with SSTC about 9 years ago, and absolutely love it - from the venue to the managing staff, volunteers and actors, it's an incredible experience and one not to be missed. How cool is it to be able to bring a picnic, enjoy the hidden gem known as Sanborn Skyline County Park, and enjoy FREE shakespeare in the park! I started out working on props, ushering and gradually made my way to Concessions Management; I also assist with other fundraising efforts throughout the year.

The shows themselves are very well directed and staged, costumes and lighting are awesome - everyone works very hard to make sure the audience enjoys each show. The settings they use for the shows really make shakespeare enjoyable and understandable to everyone.
For example, "Taming of the Shrew" was set in the the "old west"and it really made it easy for me to understand and I really enjoyed it. Last summer's production of "Much Ado" set in a WWII England was a hoot - especially with live music on stage and the actor's singing the standards of the day.

The shows presented by Shady Shakespeare Theatre Company should not be missed.

Two weeks ago my husband and I attended our first play at shakespeare in the Park. It was great. My husband was hesitent because he wasn't a big shakespeare fan, but he went for me. Now he's insistent on making it to a show as much as possible. The actors are all very talented and funny. It's a nice thing to do just to enjoy the scenery at the park and enjoy the show. I'm very glad that we attended two shows so far this summer and will continue to support shadyshakes for a long time!!!

I would want them to have a little bit more advertising so more people could come and enjoy and contribute to the company!!!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

They put on a great show and really like to engage with the audience.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Very friendly!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Would make it's own replica of the Globe Theatre and use it for their own performances.

Ways to make it better...

They had more choices at the snack bar.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Funding

One thing I'd also say is that...

If they had more advertising on the plays to the public they would get more people to see a show and more people to sponsor the organization.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

One time
