From day one, when Dr. Ludy Green asked me to be on the Board, I didn’t hesitate. The work she does is extraordinary, and so crucial to the community it serves. When you understand the cycle of abuse, you know that women are not the only victims. Their children are also abused, elderly parents, family animals. Through denying any kind of independence, the abuser keeps the family locked into the most destructive pattern there is. Second Chance Employment Services goes right to the core of the problem with solid solutions. It is absolutely fundamental in breaking this cycle of abuse, a cycle that often repeats itself in children of abusers. By saving the mother, SCES is also saving a second generation. First, by getting women out of this death-hold; and secondly by providing training and placement in professional careers. It’s not a quick fix, not a patch. These women need long-term careers so they can have the financial security they need. Dr. Green’s dedication is unflagging; she has channeled a lifetime of experience in Human Resources and a Ph.D in Industrial Organizational Psychology entirely to the good of others, creating an impressive network that touches so many lives. I have seen SCES evolve through the years, and I have met the women she helps on numerous occasions. To hear their stories and see how they’ve re-built their lives is truly inspirational.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

watching the absolute miracle that takes place as women are transformed from victims to productive, positive, and confident family providers.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

both compassionate and passionate about what they do. They treat those who come to them with great dignity, and their genuine enthusiasm for providing a real solution is unparalleled.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

obviously broaden its network, increase staffing, and expand its reach.

It has been my privilege to serve as a volunteer with Second Chance Employment Services, and to provide offices in our corporate headquarters. The training and guidance the women receive is of the highest level, the follow-up work is done meticulously, the scheduling of appointments is handled professionally. Nothing is left to chance because there are human resources professionals guiding their every step. These women are sent into the workforce career- ready, and there is a job waiting for them. When they first come to SCES, they truly don't know how they will survive, they have a feeling of worthlessness. All of this has been beaten into them. Here, we see them bloom, we see them believe in themselves, we see them come to the realization that they have value, that they can pull themselves up, pull their families and extended families up. It is an amazing metamorphosis, and I am proud to be a part of it.

We have supported Second Chance Employment Services since its founding. Dr. Ludy Green (and her husband, Joe) captured our hearts with their vision of the need and the opportunity back in 2001. Ludy has taken the organization to a level beyond what we ever expected in those early days. But her dream, her leadership, her passion, the widespread critical need, the wonderful team of volunteers, the benevolent supporters and the business and professional relationships she has developed have built a synergistic, powerful, non profit that has made a difference in so many lives. SCES is truly a force addressing a crying need in a way that continues to tug at our heart strings. They've provided food, shelter, employment, transportation, baby-sitting, medical care, counseling, financial advice...whatever is required to help abused women in need. SCES truly is a GREAT NONPROFIT! Ken and Linda Thornton

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Seeing and hearing those who have found help at such a low and critical time in their lives.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Develop stronger national/international support and reach to address a problem we all know exists. Women in many places don't have a SCES to turn to.

I've worked with Ludy Green and Second Chance Employment Services for several years supporting their efforts to empower their clients with financial independence. We have helped with resumes, interviewing skills and ultimately securing employment. This organization treats each client as an individual and knows no bounds in terms of seeking the necessary resources that will prepare them for future success. The respect that this organization demands for the clients ensures they will see themselves differently - as valued, worthy and competent to move out of their current situation to a life where they are safe, productive and able to support themselves and their families.

Amazing, diverse, committed and empathetic. They treated the clients with tremendous respect and insist on the best for them. Ludy maintains a very high bar for the services for her clients. She ensures they feel they are worthy of the best

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Expand services to a larger number of clients across a greater geography

My experience has been participating in the committee that organizes its annual fundraising gala that raises funds to help meet its annual operating costs. This non-profit has an extremely dedicated and experienced group of supporters who help organize this annual event.

I have known and observed the work that Second Chance Employment Service has done since its inception in 2001. SCES has grown considerably but it has remained steadfast on the most important contribution. SCES provides "real" help for the those in need with the most difficult aspect of the process "the initial break" from the abuser. SCES provides real logistical assistance in helping women make the transition from the abusive environment by bringing them to a place where they can begin the process of healing and building independance. Without the hands on assistance with "breaking free" victims would never be able to start anew.

I had the opportunity to meet Ludy Green earlier this year at a conference in Ohio. As a professional in this field for over 25 years, I am extremely impressed with the work of Second Change Employment Services. Their mission is meeting such a critical need of domestic violence survivors- changing their lives.

Second Chance inspires participation from everyone it touches. Ludy Green's passion for helping women who are victims of abuse find not just jobs, but *meaningful* employment and a healthy life makes this group an exceptional community resource. They are adamant about ensuring that work is career-oriented and pays a salary/wage that will support the client and her children. I have seen Ludy and her volunteers go to great lengths to meet the needs of their clients - from providing them pratical financial education like my firm donates, to finding housing, childcare, and even corrective surgery and therapy to address the physical and emotional damage these women have endured. Ludy and her team are worthy of the highest praise, and all the support they can get.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The incredible passion and dedication that Ludy and her team have. The women who come through their program KNOW they are valuable. I've seen it on their faces after our financial management programs. They are so appreciative.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Dedicated, kind, thoughtful and determined. Like many other nonprofits, they work incredibly hard with not enough resources. They are always gracious. It can't be easy.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Change the world. SCES has been held up as a model internationally. Former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice sent a number of countries to meet with Ludy and learn how to adapt the program to their environments.

I helped out Second Chance Services with their systems needs in order to operate reliably and efficiently. I have seen and experienced their hard work first hand, and from my experience, the staff have always been extremely friendly, courteous, professional and diligent. Second Chance works hard to provide for the needs of the community and the people that they serve. I cannot say enough great things about this organization.
