I love SILC because it helps my family and I to be a part of another culture. We are learning a new language, as well as gaining knowledge about India's history and traditions, and styles of dance! I am learning about various styles of Indian visual art and very much enjoy exploring those with the children at SILC. And, we have the privilege of celebrating Indian style, which is very rich indeed--tasty, colorful and fun! We are blessed to be members of SILC!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Though I thoroughly enjoy all my time at SILC, what primarily drew me and what I really love to do is learn to perform dances of India with the women of SILC. The music and dances taught are full of life and vibrancy and a treat to perform!

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Devoted, energetic, fun, smart and make SILC a great place to be.

School of India For Languages and Culture (SILC) provides an excellent opportunity to twin cities (minneapolis / st.paul) community interested in learning about Indian languages (hindi, telugu, kannada, malayalam, nepali, tamil, gujarati), culture (festivals, dances, food, arts, tabala, yoga, cricket, cooking). At a personal level, it helped me and my kids to stay connected with our roots; and at the same time, gave me an opportunity to share and to teach Telugu language.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

being a Telugu teacher and volunteer - spending every saturday morning with the rest of volunteers, parents, teachers and students

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

dedicated, professional and hold vast amount of experience and knowledge; And and all of them share a passion to volunteer, help and teach

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

help in moving to a permanant school building in Minneapolis / St Paul (Right now, SILC operates in a rented school space on weekends). It could also help in supporting many outreach programs (inviting people from India for guest lectures / performances)
