SAVE THE WHALES INC

I have attended several classroom presentations by Save The Whales. What impressed me most is the sincere caring for environmental stewardship that the volunteers shared with the children. The presentations were engaging and hands-on. I feel that their message to children is both educational and hopeful for the future of our planet.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
have Whales on Wheels available to more schools for marine education.
The Save the Whales presentation my fourth grade class received was great. They learned about problems and solutions that related to their every day life when they learned abvout their local water shed. The students still talk about the cool water shed model and the dolphin species that recently became extinct.

Having a local organization that brings the ocean to students' front door and contact with a "real scientist" has affected my students in thinking of the more ways they can affect the world.

I think if Save the Whaleso reach whole family (moms and dads) that would be very powerful.
Tom from Save the Whales did several presentations over the years at my school and my class has always enjoyed them very much. He gets the kids' attention and does a very organized and instructional program. His slide shows are great and he has hands-on activities that the kids love to participate in. The kids care about not polluting the environment and can really understand the concepts by the activities such as putting drops of colored water into the watershed model that shows how pollutants get into the water in the bay. They are excited and want to share their new knowledge with their families.

Give them more funding to do more presentations
Tom has done an awesome job presenting to the students I work with. Tom has presented for El Sausal, North Monterey County, and La Paz Middle Schools. The students definitely learn a lot, and have fun with the watershed model. We hope to keep working with Tom, and have him present to the next group of students.

Do nothing, they do a great job!!
Tom presented whale protection programs to 76 third grade students at Mission Park Elementary School during the 2010-2011 school year. The students continue to talk about the informative, hands on programs. Students are concerned about their ocean and tell others about keeping harmful items out of storm drains. They didn't like the underwater noise pollution and want to protect whales. Tom is great with the kids, presents lessons at their level, and involves them in hands on activities. All 3 third grade classes enjoyed his presentations.

The program is excellent.
I am a fourth grade teacher. Tom has worked with the students in my class for many years. He gives an organized, well presented program on watersheds and protecting the whales. He has a great way with children and they watch, participate and learn with enthusiasm. Tom is a great asset to the Return of the Natives Education program and the Save the Whales student presentation programs. I heartily endorse the program and strongly encourage the continued funding for these programs. In this time of dwindling funding for field trips or for any extra curricular education programs, programs like Save the Whales are truly invaluable.

offer more programs like these for all students. Our students need to learn to be stewards of the Earth, and these programs help them become willing participants.
Tom has presented at our school several times, and he always connects to the students. At the end of the year, the students consider his presentations one of the highlights of the year. He engages them in a way that helps them remember his information, and they become more aware of environmental issues and the fact that they can make a difference.

Tom has offered several presentations on marine mammals to the two schools I have worked at. He has a wealth of information and always brings in lots of artifacts for students to look at. His dedication and passion for marine mammals is evident and students always come away with a greater understanding of the issues affecting marine mammals.

Tom presented to the Pajaro Middle School Watershed Academy, an after school program this past January. He had so much information to share with the students and fully engaged them in so many ways. He had facts, details, and hands-on activities that helped the students understand their role in learning and protecting their world. Thanks Tom!

I am a Teacher at Ohlone School. Tom came to do a presentation on marine animals. He presented to all the third graders at Ohlone. We are a TITLE 1 School and have many students with limited English skills. Tom presentations were educational and accessible to all students. He used hands on activities and visuals to reach all students. The students learned so much from his presentations that they started a Save the Earth Club at Ohlone.
