Save Our Setters, Inc., a Tennessee Corporation, was formed in March of 2003 through the unification of setter rescue groups already operating in the eastern and central US. SOS currently provides rescue services in most states, independently of the Irish Setter Club of America (ISCA) yet in cooperation with most Irish Setter rescue groups supported by the ISCA as well as other setter breed rescues. SOS relies on volunteers and donors to fulfill its mission. SOS requires vet references and home visits on all potential adopters to ensure proper care for the setter. All SOS dogs are spayed/neutered, current on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and microchipped. SOS also provides breed-specific information to the potential adopters to make them aware of the energy levels often found in setters. Every effort is made to ensure the best possible fit between the adopting family and their new family member.
Save Our Setters (SOS) participates in various pet-related events. SOS also participates in parades to help raise awareness of the plight of homeless setters. SOS works with many other rescue groups in an effort to provide the setters with permanent new homes where they will be well cared for and loved. SOS discusses with all applicants the importance of spaying/neutering their existing pets whenever applicable.
