It is an honor to be associated with an organization full of such knowledgeable, compassionate and professional people. Always with a priority on what is best for the horses and with an understanding of the importance of integrity and transparency. SAFE is rescue done right.

I discovered this rescue in 2008 after spending time with other equine related organizations. The huge difference for me was the honesty and professionalism among the group and it's supporters. I never expected to find quantifiable results but have now grown to expect it. It's level of care and follow through sold me early on and is the reason I chose to become part of the team.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I've learned so much about rescue, rehabilitation & general horse care since I met this group. I'm absolutely a better equestrian because of them.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Give them a bigger public presence. People need to see what this group does!

I came to them while they were working with horses from the herd my personal rescued horse came from and I just wanted to help. I have now worked with S.A.F.E. for 3 years and they've impressed me from the start with their commitment to the horses in their care by rescuing, rehabilitating, training (where age appropriate) and responsible rehoming. Although the connections began online, the organization is very "hands on" through every step of the process, including site checks and well checks on their alumni. The fact that they post their financial reports online and work hard to create a sense of community in their outreach programs makes this an amazing organization!

I feel that I've become a better equestrian in terms of my knowledge and experience though my interaction with the vast network of like minded people. I also am deeply moved by the stories of strength the horses show to survive and by the amazing dedication of the volunteers.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Give SAFE a louder voice. Their message needs to be heard.

what's different about SAFE?

1) We have completely transparent financials - if you want to see them, you don't even have to ask! They're on our website.

2) We don't get in over our heads. That's why you'll never see us begging for money or screaming for help. We are frugal with our money and make sure that we always have funds available to give our horses whatever they need.

3) We set our horses up for success! Good horses get good homes. So in addition to vet care and rehabiliation, we also provide our horses with the training they need to get and keep a good home.

4) We don't spend obscene amount of money on fundraising or salaries. We are truly a grassroots organization that succeeds by hard work and the passion of our volunteers. We have talented individuals on our team coming up with great ideas to promote our mission and help as many horses and horseowners as possible.

5) We always strive to do the right thing, even when it's not the easy thing. We admit our mistakes and work hard to never repeat them.

I can say with utter conviction that SAFE deserves your support.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

seeing hurt, scared and starving horses transformed into the beautiful, healthy creatures that nature intended them to be. I've seen lives saved, lives lost, new life, and lives renewed. I've looked into the eyes of a horse and found myself in awe of the trust and courage that these creatures possessed. I've watched joy on the faces of the people who have opened their hearts and homes to our horses.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

spend every hour I could making sure that the people who already support us know how deeply grateful we are and how lucky we feel to have them on our side.

I am the President of SAFE and I am truly honored and humbled to read the amazing reviews that have been written so far. I've been one of many people that have poured their heart and soul into SAFE for the past 6 years. I would love to see SAFE win this $5000 grant because I know first-hand how far that money can go and how many horses it could help. I hope that everyone will post a review to help us reach our goal. Not only that, but in accordance to our mission statement which speaks to our core values of integrity and honesty, we welcome any and all constructive feedback that will help us to continue to grow and help more local horses and horse owners in need.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Did you know that over 98% of the funds donated to SAFE goes directly to helping horses in need? That assistance takes various forms including supporting animal control in seizure efforts, rescuing horses at the auction, occasionally accepting owner surrenders or providing community outreach to support owners through a short-term difficulty. Not only do we provide every day care for our herd, but we provide at least 60 days training for unstarted horses of riding age in our care, to ensure a safe future.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

SAFE is in great need of funding to support additional facilities to house our horses. We also are always in need of dedicated, professional, responsible volunteers to help in all aspects of SAFE.
