Mission: SCFHF’s mission is to promote access to affordable, high quality health care through resource development and outreach on behalf of the underserved members of our community. SCFHF’s focus is on raising funds to support the Healthy Kids program and the Children’s Health Initiative in Santa Clara County. The Children’s Health Initiative (CHI) is a county-wide, community-based effort to ensure that all children in the county whose parents have an income at or below 300% of the federal poverty level have health coverage. The Children’s Health Initiative includes two main elements: 1) an aggressive community outreach effort to identify uninsured children and assist their parents in applying for appropriate health coverage (Medi-Cal, Healthy Families, or Healthy Kids), and 2) the Healthy Kids program, a health coverage option available for uninsured children who do not qualify for state-subsidized health coverage. Before the start of Healthy Kids, one out of every eight children in Santa Clara County was without health coverage. Presently, there are fewer than 3% of children in Santa Clara County without regular health care support as a result of CHI and the Healthy Kids program.
Geographic areas served: Santa Clara County
Programs: Healthy Kids- medical, dental, vision and mental health coverage for children (currently over 11,000) in families who could otherwise not afford insurance for their children. Children's Health Initiative (a collaboration of multiple key agencies within the county)- conducts outreach to enroll children in programs in which they are eligible i.e. Medical, Healthy Families and Healthy Kids (funded by non federal and state funds), so that they will have regular care by their own doctor. Healthy Kids Collaboration- the Foundation acts a resource for other counties establishing similar programs providing them with information needed re: number of uninsured, establishing community partnerships, finding funding, etc.

My child had two bone marrow transplants and survived. Since then, it has been my mission to help improve the health of children in my County. Santa Clara Family Health Foundation has helped me accomplish this important effort.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

since the inception of this organization, the number of children in our county without health coverage has dropped from 1 out of every eight to less than 3% without coverage.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

advertise it more, the good work they do.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Is how they help children

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

excited and passionate about what they do

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

make sure all children are insured and work on proactive efforts like fighting obesity and diabetes

Ways to make it better...

there was more PR around this effort

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Finding enough funding

One thing I'd also say is that...

Everyone working on this effort is passionate about health care

As a donor to Santa Clara Family Health Foundation, I truly believe in the mission and work of the organization. Not only does the organization provide a vital service to the community it serves, but it also sets a precedence for providing access to health care services for all children. Santa Clara Family Health Foundation has been, and continues to be, a progressive movement towards ensuring that children are healthier so they can perform better in school and grow into productive adults.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

recognizing the outstanding contribution it makes to the community. Without its development and fundraising activities, many low-income children would be without access to critical health care services.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

its ability to maintain focus on its mission and goals.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

passionate, thoughtful, and effective.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

provide all children in its community with access to critical and much-needed health services.

Santa Clara Family Health Foundation is an able and well-run organization that has successfully secured millions of dollars in public and private resources to ensure that all children in Santa Clara County have health insurance. Their success is evidenced in the statistics, over 97% of all children in the County now have health insurance.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

my daily work. We see children every day who are recipients of the Healthy Kids program.
