SCFHF’s mission is to promote access to affordable, high quality health care through resource development and outreach on behalf of the underserved members of our community. SCFHF’s focus is on raising funds to support the Healthy Kids program and the Children’s Health Initiative in Santa Clara County. The Children’s Health Initiative (CHI) is a county-wide, community-based effort to ensure that all children in the county whose parents have an income at or below 300% of the federal poverty level have health coverage. The Children’s Health Initiative includes two main elements: 1) an aggressive community outreach effort to identify uninsured children and assist their parents in applying for appropriate health coverage (Medi-Cal, Healthy Families, or Healthy Kids), and 2) the Healthy Kids program, a health coverage option available for uninsured children who do not qualify for state-subsidized health coverage. Before the start of Healthy Kids, one out of every eight children in Santa Clara County was without health coverage. Presently, there are fewer than 3% of children in Santa Clara County without regular health care support as a result of CHI and the Healthy Kids program.
Geographic areas served:
Santa Clara County
Healthy Kids- medical, dental, vision and mental health coverage for children (currently over 11,000) in families who could otherwise not afford insurance for their children. Children's Health Initiative (a collaboration of multiple key agencies within the county)- conducts outreach to enroll children in programs in which they are eligible i.e. Medical, Healthy Families and Healthy Kids (funded by non federal and state funds), so that they will have regular care by their own doctor. Healthy Kids Collaboration- the Foundation acts a resource for other counties establishing similar programs providing them with information needed re: number of uninsured, establishing community partnerships, finding funding, etc.

I want to thank you again for referring my son David to Dr. Holt. He was seen today and was diagnosed with a stigmatism. He will need glasses so I ordered them. If it wasn't for you and your organization going to the schools and screening the children I would have never known that he had a stigmatism. Dr. Holt told me that many young children like mine used to go for years with vision problems that were undetected. Before you and your organization, he didn't see children under 5 years of age. But now he does and is able to help them. He too is grateful to you and told me so. Think of all the children who have been helped by your children. Without this type of screening problem, they would be missed and have vision problems that could lead to poor performance in school. I am so grateful to you. Please know how much I appreciate everything that you do. I know this will make a difference in my son's life. He will be able to learn better and have good self-esteem. Thank for making this happen.
We owe so much to The Healthier Kids Foundation. Had they not come to my son's preschool and screened his eyes, he would be legally blind in his Right Eye Today. Brandon is a typical boy that loves to build and play. After he started wearing his glasses, he was a New Boy! His Teachers saw a difference in him. He was more interactive, participated more in crafts and such. I Pray that HKF are able to help 100% of children across the board one day. This screening and Dr. Pokorny at Kaiser Santa Teresa verifying their findings of Astigmatism and Anasomatropia, getting him in glasses to reverse this in time, there are not enough Hugs, Kisses and words. His eyes are 100% reversed with perfect vision. Had Kaiser had this screening machine during his check-ups it would've been caught sooner. I'm over the Moon that it was caught and he's back on track now. It makes me sad for the children that are behind because of something so simple.

As a client being served by the Santa Clara family Health Foundation, I didn't hesitate to remark what a great foundation this is as I have been benefiting by its many services that help low-income families receive medical services. As a client, they foundation has allowed me to receive many different medical services at a really low cost that enables me to pay the rest for such services. These vary from orthopedics, to dental, regular check-ups, emergency visits, express care, and even hospital stays. I would recommend this program to everybody out there since it is a non-profit organization that is there to lend a helping hand to all of those low-income families who have difficulties receiving medical services due to financial issues. With SCFHF, medical insurance becomes an opportunity available to everybody and enables thousands to receive proper treatment at a low cost.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
The many different medical services that have been provided to me and my family thanks to its programs that enables a proper medical experience to be available to everybody regardless of class, or legal status.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
not change the organization at all!
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
that I am able to recive medical services when I'm sick since SCFHF enables me to cover the very low costs of it after they have covered most of the treatment with theri own budget.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
quite amazing. They are really helpful and speak the languages that people need such as spanish. They are also very effective and act efficiently.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
really make medical insurance a reality to thousands of kids and adults out there who can't be treated due to financial issues.
Ways to make it better...
My experience has been great so far; no complaints.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
That they are lacking some support from many different companies and agencies that should be donating more money to the program so that it can sustain itself and continue helping thousands receive medical services.
One thing I'd also say is that...
this organization is one of the best non-profits that exist in the state of california.
How frequently have you been involved with the organization?
About every month
