People helping people. Please read about our great day.
By, Natasha Rowles on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 8:01pm.Today I took our children, Chloe & Cameron Rowles to the San Diego Rescue Mission located in downtown S.D to donate our collection of clothes, shoes, books, games, backpacks & toys
to help the homeless men, women & children. They shelter indiviguals & families for the night or one of their year programs. We were given a tour by an "Angel" named Mark Lagace. This man took the kids & I through a complete tour of their building which included seeing how people are processed & helped get their lives in a positive direction. I almost fell to tears as I saw the night emergency room that housed 117 women & children the night before. I don't know how they made the room for everyone. The kids & I saw an extremely small room with rows of cots on the floor for the children & bunk-beds lining the walls for the women. They have a seperate portion of the building for men so that everyone "feels safe". Mr. Lagace asked the kids what they thought the average age of someone who is homeless was. The kids were shocked to find out that it was 9 years old. Chloe's age! He took us through all the floors & we got to meet some mothers & little children in the 1 year program. Their smiling faces told us everthing. It told us that they have hope for a better life & that Jesus was there. They talked with us about the school that the children attend & that many donations are made. One lady was so proud that her son got to go to a Padre game. The halls are decorated with pictures that the children have made. They all have a common theme, Jesus. As we walked through the shelter I saw our children's emotions change from being sorda nervous to proud smiles. Mr. Lagace spent over an hour with us on this tour. He had a great way of explaining to the kids all about what the help does for people, why people would need it & how people can become homeless. I think we all need to see what this is all about. It really makes you apprieate what you have. I know that our kids did today. We are planning to return in October to attend a Graduation Ceremony for for the families in the 1 year program to cheer them on! Today was a great day. God is good. I'm glad that there is still good people on this Earth who help others. Take a look at their website. Maybe you & your families can help too. The Rowles Family supports the S.D Rescue Mission. We want to thank Mark Lagace & his staff for their warm welcome today. We are your new friends. God bless.

I had a chance to help the Mission organize a fundraising event, Sleepless In San Diego. I was able to bring in a top designer who created a beautiful logo and then secured web domains for the cause. The event was a big success and is now an annual event in San Diego and other cities. The work the Mission does is unique in San Diego and I am delighted to have played a small part in their success.

The leadership does an amazing job of keeping all the activities moving in a very challenging environment. I can't think of anything they are not already doing to further the Mission.
