Greetings! Over the past 2 years I have become increasingly involved in what's known as the Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) process for feral cats in and around my neighborhood. It all started when me and a neighbor began feeding a half-dozen feral cats who roamed the streets around our homes. He fed a few here and there, and I did the same. Either of owned any cats of our own, but over time we came to develop relationships with these beautiful creatures. These particular colony of feral cats were already grown, and so not too amendable to being domesticated pets. However, about six months into feeding them some of the females began having kittens, and both my neighbor and I knew something had to be done to stop the cycle, but what? We didn't have the slightest idea about how to successfully catch these cats, nor did we have the money to take each one to the vet to be spayed and neutered. And that's when we heard from another friend of ours about the Sacramento Area Animal Coalition (SAAC)! They're website was such a great resource and provided some basic information about feral cats and the importance of spaying/neutering them. Not only did they provide affordable spay/neutering (only $10 per cat!), they also provided us with all the information we needed about where we could buy the traps, the TNR process, and options for adoption. It was through the SAAC that we learned that young feral cats can be domesticated, which was so exciting because both my neighbor and I both wanted to adopt the little guys! I now have 2 and he has 5 of the feral kitties! They are all spayed/neutered, have all their shots, and are healthy as can be! We still continue to TNR feral cats, and have spayed/neutered 32 cats to date, 14 of which have been successfully adopted by our friends and family! Yay!!! Thank you SAAC for all the hard work, dedication, love, and resources you put into our community in helping to educate one another about how we can make a difference without breaking our pocket books! These cats have brought so much joy into our lives! Thanks you again so very much, and for anyone reading this-- please support the SAAC!!!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

My one-on-one interaction with members of the SAAC, as well as the resources on their website!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Give them more funding and volunteers!
