Volunteering at TWAS has been, and continues to be, a wonderful experience. I signed up when I was new in town, as a way to get out of the house and meet people. And I have! So many wonderful, kind-hearted, animal lovers who care so much about these beautiful creatures who had rough starts in the world. It's a truly satisfying time, to spend time outdoors in beautiful Colorado doing hard work, dirty work, smelly work, going home so tired sometimes I can barely stay awake past 830... but knowing what a difference it makes. I'm so grateful to be part of an organization like TWAS. It feeds my soul to see everyone working together to make the world a better place!

I worked with this organization in 2009 and it was a wonderful experience. I learned so much about exotic creatures and turned it into a hobby, doing tons of research on the side. I also learned that there is hope for animals in this situation. They take exotic creatures that have been bred and sold to the public. People will keep these animals in their backyards, garages, and breed them for private shows. There is an overpopulation of exotics and nowhere for many to go. The Wild Animal Sanctuary is a place that creates hope for these amazing beautiful animals. They make habitats that are natural and give privacy for them. Since these animals can no longer go back into the wild, this is the next best thing for them. The Wild Animal Sanctuary also educates the public on the Captive Wild Animal Crisis. So that many can learn why they shouldn't obtain these animals or support the ones that do. We all need to recognize all the hope, and happiness this Sanctuary brings. They do a wonderful job for this country.

I can not say enough good this about this sanctuary. It has changed my life and my view of humanity. These animals deserve a live of peace after being forgotten, abused and abandoned by all. But here they have a new chance to live life in in large acreage habitats away from concrete floors and with out abuse and neglect. I am so very grateful that there are places like this in the world. Thank you to everyone who contributes.

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

This volunteer experience has changed my life. It has given me an oppertunity to work with my hands, which I do not get to do often enough. I have met people who share the same passion for animals as I do. The people I have met at The Wild Animal Santurary are the nicest group of people I have ever come in contact with. I enjoy every volunteer oppertunity and will continue to dedicate my time to this organization.

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

Incredible.

I Live in Mexico, where the animals suffer a terrible and sad reality. We don´t have an animal welfare law to defend them and there´s a lot of work to do, specially with those animals that are not companion animals: the wild ones. I met the Wild Animal Sanctuary years ago, when I was trying to rescue a lion (Kobu) that lived in a concrete cage inside a school. Kobu was fed with stray dogs. I tried to find places to relocate Kobu but there are not sanctuaries in Mexico; just zoos that often have very bad facilities and few economic resources. Many animals are sold by the zoos or the Wildlife authorities to the circuses. In the case of Kobu, ever place I contacted suggested me to killed him because of the lack of options for him. Here is when I met Pat Craig and the Wild Animal Sanctuary. They were the only ones who helped me and Kobu. They gave us their support and trust. It took more than 2 years to rescue Kobu and the Wild Animal Sanctuary was there all the time working in the case, giving the best to make the rescue possible. Finally, Kobu went to live to its beautiful prairies, and with that also started a beautiful story of love between the Sanctuary and the Mexican animals in need. Kobu is not the only lion that the Sanctuary has rescued from Mexico, others came after him. And many more will know the freedom thanks to them. The WAS is a solid, honorable and kind project that deserves all the help, support and recognition we can give.

This is the most amazing place and the animals are so happy. You can see the transformation in animals from the time they come in from horrific situations to knowing they are no longer going to be abused. If you are an animal person you know when you see a happy animal, and these animals are very happy! The staff uses the volunteers wisely, we are on a rotation so all of us learn the inner workings of what it takes to take care of these wonderful animals. There is always something to do, and everything we do is purposeful, from helping prepare meals, feeding, cleaning, watering, talking to the public, doing upkeep, etc. It is amazing how much work it takes to take care of these animals and this is the most satifying experience I have ever had in my life! I go away happy, knowing I helped make a difference in the lives of these animals!

After visiting the sanctuary 2 summers ago with and out of state visitor, I knew I had to become a volunteer! I now go to the Sanctuary every Thursday and help with whatever needs done, preparing food, feeding the animals, cleaning up or answering visitors questions. I also am a member of the speakers bureau that travels to different sites and gives a power point presentation about the Sanctuary.

I have never seen such a dedicated group of people all the way down from Pat Craig, the founder, to all of his paid staff and the many volunteers who give their time. Not only are they totally invested in the care of these animals they truly want to educate the public about the Captive Wild Animal Crisis not only in the United States but the entire world.

The animals at the Sanctuary are loved, respected and cared for to live out a serene life for the rest of their lives. I have never seen such a content group of animals! I love watching the Bolivian lions taking naps or exploring their spacious habitats. Knowing the life they lived before just brings tears of gratitude to my eyes that they now live in such a wonderful place where they will never be exploited again.

Please support this wonderful animal sanctuary in any way that you can help.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

My observation when I volunteer out there once a week.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Find a way to get the word out about this wonderful Sanctuary, as advertising is so expensive we rely on word of mouth mostly or press coverage.

I first heard of TWAS and its work on Animal Planet.
The first opportunity I got, I went to visit and was so moved that I just had to do all I could to help. I volunteered as often as I could and the staff is wonderful and truly care about helping the animals and the animals themselves are
amazing that they can recover from the abuse and neglect that they ssuffered to trust people again and to see them happy is truly all one can ask for.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Everything. I am a vet tech and my life revolves around animals.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

there is nothing I would change that they are not already in the process of changing
