Rockford Rescue Mission Ministries
At the Rockford Rescue Mission a hot and nutritious breakfast, lunch and dinner are served 7 days a week, every day of the year. The promise of a hearty meal draws the homeless and hungry in, but once they are inside they receive so much more. Shelter, vocational training, medical care, case management, christian counseling...the possibilities are endless. They work tirelessly to provide to those who are hurting, homeless and hungry.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
If I could change something, there would be no one who needed the services of any homeless shelter. As long as there are homeless, hungry and hurting people needing services....I am confident the Mission will be there to provide those services.
Over the last few years I've been the Community Project Coordinator for a faith-based mentorship program. One of our students favorite organizations to work with has been the Rockford Rescue Mission. Partnering alongside the caring, loving staff of the RM has been a great experience for our students where they learn to look past social status and love the unlovable. The staff doesn't just expect the volunteers to come be work horses, but mentors the volunteers, shares with them the heart, and goes above and beyond to show them how grateful they are for their service. They genuinely care about every person that walks through their doors, volunteer or client. I have also referred a friend to the RM who became homeless earlier this Summer. She was skeptical and would normally not do well in a program/organization that has requirements & expectations, but she responded well because of the love and care that was shown.

seeing men & women overcome addictions, men, women, & children find shelter, food, & clothing who have previously been homeless, guests (clients) have received life lessons classes, education, case management, encouragement, overall humanity restored

revamp the volunteer application process, but I know that this is currently in process and is going well!

the staffs passion to serve and love those in society that are often overlooked and forgotten. Then these guests and people's lives are turned around and they decide to give back. AWESOME!

literally hire more staff to counsel, teach, and manage more lives who could then also give back!
Ways to make it better...
there was a larger play area for the children and a more relaxed hang out area for the ladies in the crisis center.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
under staffed, over-worked, and under-financed.
One thing I'd also say is that...
these staff members are heros! They literally lay their lives down for these people. And the guests/clients that are housed at the RM are courageous and brave.

I taught money management and remedial budgeting to the men and women who lived at the Mission and were trying to get their lives in order. Most were dealing with addictions and abusive lifestyles. As the men and women learned how to create a simple budget or balance a checkbook,I thought I would be doing something special for them. In reality, they did something special for me - they taught me that everyone has hope to become better. They just need people willing to teach them how that can be accomplished. As a result, I became a fundraiser for the Mission.

seeing lives improved. Men & women have the opportunity to complete their high school dipolma or get a GED. Many are going on or back to college. Their hope has been restored.

I have been involved for the last 6 months. It is amazing all of the opportunities the Mission affords it's residents and the public, health care, education programs, meals, life recovery programs and list goes on. There are lives being changed every day at the Rockford Rescue Mission and I am blessed to be involved.

Members of our church choir created the TLC Praise Band, solely devoted to providing music for the Rockford Rescue Mission pre-dinner Worship Service. We have been doing this the first Friday of every month since February 2004. Attendees often come up to us after the worship service to shake our hands, and share their stories. Often, we surround that person with joined hands in prayer. The feedback from the clients, both during prayer and after the service, fuels our outreach efforts.

verbal and spiritual interaction with the clients. The evening chaplain shows a lot of strength when proclaiming how God has changed his life, and how the clients can pull themselves up out of despair and homelessness as well.

I have been connected with the Mission since it's founding over 45 years ago. As a practicing physician I was able to help in a small way to care for some of the medical needs over the years. After retirement I've been allowed to serve as a board member and part of the council of elders. I have been privileged to see many clients respond to the call of a loving Christ and have their lives totally changed. Praise God for the staff and the work of the Rockford Rescue Mission!

Over a period of 15 years we have been blest by the work of volunteers at Rockford Rescue Mission. Lives have been changed after responding to the Gospel message of Christ's love for all who will come to Him. Those who manage the work and give unstintingly to the mission of RESCUE are to be greatly rewarded in that day when we stand before our Beloved Lord Jesus Christ. I am so great full to be a part of a team that is dedicated to helping those who are truly in need. I am confident that the mission saves lives because they saved mine. I am just past my 3rd year serving and I find each day as rewarding as the one before. The Rockford Rescue Mission is truly dedicated to the art of rescue recover and restore. GOD Bless all the efforts of so many who dedicate their time to this mission.
