RVHR is an organization of caring individuals whose goal it is to protect horses from abuse in any form. That they are willing to devote so much time, effort and money to this cause is commendable. The horses in their care are truly rescued!

i don't remeber how i learned about rvhr, but looking into it i was very impressed. i am an animal lover. i have 4 adopted dogs, 2 barn cats and 2 horses. i called pat and asked her want i could do to help. living 4 hours away she told me to gather p.o.p's from southern states bags. now i go to different local barns and send them to her. rvhr takes wonderful care of the horses when they need it most. i wish there were more people like pat and her crew.

Oliver Wendell Holmes wrote "To many, the words love, hope and dreams and synonymous with Horses." I, like many others, have had a deep love for horses since a very young age. We are truly blessed to have an organization like the Raonoke Valley Horse Rescue in our area with people like Pat Muncy who are dedicated to saving the lives of horses.

Try to find ways to help them raise more money so they would be able to expand their facilities and help more horses.
I am thankful for the Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue because I found my second equine love there! Shawnee, now a 4-year-old Thoroughbred, was one of the horses that RVHR took in from the Loudon County farm seizure in 2008. I first met her in April 2008 when I visited RVHR as a potential adopter. At first, I thought that I wouldn't want such a young horse. However, Pat, the head of RVHR, helped me to realize that a young horse like Shawnee might be better than an older horse who had been abused or had had other negative encounters with humans in the past. Because of this, Shawnee has been much easier to train; in fact, most of the time, she follows me around like a big puppy dog!
Through the process of adopting Shawnee, the rescue was very helpful and understanding; I was not required to have an unreasonable number of sessions with Shawnee before adopting her or go through any other unneccesary procedures. I believe that RVHR is very fair in their adoption policies, which protect the adopted horses but are not extensive enough to be a burden to the adopter. I highly recommend this rescue due to the staff's experience, expertise, sincerity, and most importantly, the love for the animals in their care.

Make it more available to the public/other horse enthusiasts in order to show others the service that the rescue does for the community and beyond by saving & rehabilitating animals
When I look at organizations to donate to, I ask several questions. First, does the money go support the work of the organization, or to support the leadership of the organization. Clearly, the Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue supports the community that it serves and not the individuals that run the Rescue. In fact, I am convinced that any donation to RVHR only serves to make Pat work harder to see that the donation does as much good as possible.
Second, I ask if the organization serves a small community, or a large one. RVHR rescues and places horses throughout the country, and not just the Roanoke Valley in Virginia.
Finally, I ask if my donation will make a difference. After viewing the Rescue, seeing the horses, and talking to Pat, Jason, and Susan, I know any donation will be put to good use. So will your's, if you choose to help.

RVHR needs additional funds to build a medical barn for horses, burros, mules, etc. RVHR needs more sponsors for the horses. A sponsor can provide a monthly contribution to a horse of his or hers choosing. My wife's favorite horses are Naomi, Gus, Hope, Dream Boat Annie and Selene. These horses need a sponsor.
As a valley horse owner I really appreciate and support the work that the RVHR has done. We need this safety net.

I heard about the rescue and because I have horses of my own and have a special felling for all horses I drove down to the rescue to drop off some money and extra tack I have. In all my communication with Pat I am so impressed by her compassion and care for the horses. I give occasionally and just sponsored a horse. This organization deserves all the support it can get.

I VISITED THE ROANOKE VALLEY HORSE RESCUE FOR THE FIRST TIME 7 YEARS AGO. THE COMPASSION THAT PAT AND HER FAMILY HAVE FOR THE ANIMALS IN THEIR CARE INSPIRED ME GREATLY. HAVING MUCH EXPERIENCE IN CARING FOR HORSES, I KNOW HOW DIFFICULT AND EXPENSIVE IT CAN BE TO MANAGE EVEN A SMALL HERD. WHAT THEY DO FOR THESE RESCUED HORSES IS HEROIC BY ANY STANDARDS. I WILL CONTINUE TO SEND MY LOVE AND SUPPORT. THANKS PAT. THE WORLD IS BETTER FOR HAVING YOU HERE.
