In the depressed economy currently affecting our nation, it is heroic efforts from organizations like Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue that provide hope for horses whose owners no longer can, or worse, no longer choose to, care for them. It is a honor and privilege to donate to these altruistic efforts, and sponsor six of Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue's rescued horses. If you cannot adopt or provide a foster home for one or more of these noble horses who so want and deserve a second change for a forever home, please consider sponsoring one or more horses. Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue is staffed with people who genuinely care for each horse, and ensure that donations are used for animal care, not indirect administrative costs. For the sake of all horses who need a second chance nationwide, thank God there are agencies like Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue!

I have a Mustang whose training has been a challenge. I reached out to Pat and RVHR, from whom I learned about an RVHR co-worker, Diane, who does Reiki. Diane's Reiki therapy has greatly assisted us to find a way to reach this very special horse, ease his issues, and enable him to willing move ahead with trust and training. This is just another example of the ways that Pat, Diane, and all of the special people at RVHR make such meaningful contributions to horses in need. Especially in our nation's troubled economic times, where families are forced to just give up their horse(s), or horses are neglected or abandoned in vacant fields or at truck stops, it is a blessing that caring organizations like RVHR exist to protect and care for the innocent victims. God bless Pat and RVHR for the wonderful works and support for our noble horses!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Where a series of trainers have given up on him, RVHR found us the solution, in Reiki therapy through RVHR associate, Diane, which has proven to be the key that unlocked the issues preventing my BLM mustang from progressing with trust and training.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Find ways to help RVHR to generate the funding and resources to continue, ideally, to expand their horse rescue and care efforts, so that no horse should ever have to suffer again.

I work with Vicki - who volunteers faithfully at the RVHR. She has relayed her experience with others at work and encourages donations (of all sorts). I donated to the RVHR based on what I saw on their website and the personal stories Vicki has shared. These folks are very dedicated to taking care of the animals and not just the physical needs of Food, water and shelter but it is also their mission to take volunteers and have them work with a horse one on one - to develop a sense of trust between man and horse so that perhaps when the time comes they will be adoptable and can bring joy to a family of their own. I have seen local news broadcasts about the work and willingness to take in animals who have suffered terrible neglect and in some cases abuse even when funds were low - they work hard to raise awareness and hopefully funds in the midst of tireless hours of plain physical labor. Very kind hearted folks here.

This place is a god send to horses and people! A lot of good people have to give up there beloved horses because of illness or job loss and they are taken in! She also takes in the abused and neglected horses nurses them back to health and gets them to trust people again. She is a miracle worker! She only wants the best for her large family of horses, donkeys, dogs, cats etc. Sometimes horses just can't be adopted out but they will also have a wonderful and loving home. Everyone should find it in there heart to have such kindness then we wouldn't have such a large need! It is a wonderful and terrific thing that everyone does at the Rescue and I know there are lots of angels watch over them.

The dedicated folks at RVHR have saved almost 200 horses and re-homed 125 - what an honorable and charitable group of people! I am touched by the work they do and hope to visit the rescue this year. If you can help in any way, no matter how small, it will be much appreciated by the wonderful folks at RVHR and the magnificent creatures they work to save.

What specific problem, purpose, priority, or project prompted your gift?

The economic climate is tough right now and I know charities are among the first to suffer - animal charities even more so. The expense of feeding and caring for horses is significant and I wanted my gift to go where it would be needed most.

Why did you make your donation at this time?

Because I love horses and know they need help during these tough economic times.

What would you tell others about this organization?

That all donations (even small ones) can make the difference in the life of a horse who needs them.

I often wonder, when giving to any charity, just how much of my gift will actually reach its intended destination. When I give to the Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue I know that every cent of every dollar is being spent on the horses. The members and volunteers of this organization show their dedication in the care they take of the horses, the informational website they maintain and the MANY fundraising events they sponsor throught the year. I am a horse owner myself and when I see news stories of neglect and abuse, I am so glad that the Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue exists. I donate whenever I can and only wish I could give more to this outstanding group of people.

I cannot think of any changes that I would make to this organization. I think they do a fine job and would only like to see them get more money to support their cause.

RVHR is truly dedicated to the welfare of used, abused and neglected horses...they are always there to take in "just one more". As everyone knows, caring for horses is not cheap and they do a superb job of providing for their equine friends. Many of these horses have expensive medical needs on top of basic feeding and care...They have my vote!

RVHR is a wonderful organization helping these magnificant creatures that have through no fault of their own become society's throwaways. Once broken spirited, unhealthy and othewise neglected horses are given a second chance at life. The volunteers work tirelessly to meet the horses needs.

The work that Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue has done in saving the lives of horses in need, whether from neglect or abuse is a testimony that we all share in the welfare of any animal. I am grateful that their organization exits to spotlight the plight of horses. It takes great comittment to bring a horse back from the brink. It's up to all of us to help make sure that we can change the lives of horses in need.
