reStart Inc. is an interfaith ministry with homeless persons committed to providing shelter and supportive services to homeless men, women, youth and families with the goal of helping them move toward independence and self-sufficiency and ending homelessness in our community.
Programs: The only day drop-in Center in the urban core which provides shelter and employment referrals, substance abuse and mental health support, recreational activities, snacks, hygiene kits and safety for chronically homeless adults and families. In June of 2010 a kitchen run by the Episcopal Community Services will open in the basement. The Center serves approximately 175 people each day and is open from 6:30am to 3:30pm - hours that most shelter facilities are closed.

Be very careful before volunteering at this agency. reStart works on a crisis level at all times. The staff turn over is horrific There are other shelters and homeless programs that are much more client orientated and volunteer friendly. Don't commit until you investigate. I worked there for seven years so I am very aware of all of its aspects.
