Reece's Rainbow Down Syndrome Adoption Ministry
Invite reviews
Reece's Rainbow introduced me to the world of special needs orphans, orphans in developing countries which have no ability & often no desire to help these children who have been casted away simply because they are less than perfect or considered less than "normal". Children, every single one of them, should & need to be in a loving environment, have a caring family, have a support system they can depend upon. Reece's Rainbow helps to highlight the plight of these orphans who would otherwise have no chance at a family. They do wonderful work, bringing these children to the attention of the world & bringing these children forever families with that comes opportunities at life these children would never have in their home countries where they are not valued as persons at all.

I started helping with the Reece's Rainbow website a few years ago when I became aware of how they were helping special needs orphans find families. Andrea (the founder) works tirelessly to find available children and to help families through the adoption process. International adoption is complicated, but Andrea and the RR volunteers are trying their very best to help these special kids find homes!

We are continually making changes as we learn how to best serve the needs of the families and children!
When Reece's Rainbow had us work with a facilitator in Serbia, and that facilitator started making unreasonable demands, RR turned their back on us. When the facilitator attempted to extort money from me while in country, RR turned their back. When I told RR that I had been questioned about the facilitator by the U.S. Embassy, and that the Serbian Ministry was doing an investigation into the actions of the facilitator, (and had been for a full year prior to my adoption!) RR continued to send families to work with the same facilitator, one of them getting stuck in the middle of their adoption with NO facilitator because the Ministry removed her. I am not the only one. There are LOTS of similar stories from families adopting from other countries, particularly Ukraine. You don't hear anything about us because as soon as a family expresses concern, or a specific complaint, they are removed from the RR community. There are also many children listed who are not legally available for adoption, and RR will not verify with the local government regarding the child's legal status. You "take a chance". The first child we were going to adopt was NEVER legally available, and the Serbian government has verified to us that child's parental rights have never been terminated, yet she was listed on RR for 2 years prior. ASK for copies of tax records, audits, financial statement along with conflict of interest statement before dealing with this organization! (all are legal requirements for a US 501c3)

Yes, i brought my child home. RR served as a non-profit where families could donate money to our adoption. That is a GOOD thing. It is also the only thing they did for us. When we had problems, RR turned their back and walked away from us.

1) They consider themselves a "ministry" but no ministry statement is listed on the website. 2) make ALL tax year documents available via PDF from the website, ALONG with audits and financial statement. Instead the website directs you to Guidestar, where you can get previous years tax statements but pay $125 to Guidestar to get 2010 tax forms. 3) List a conflict of interest statement. 4) avoid conflict of interest, or things that can be construed as such on your board of directors.

We recently adopted a child with Down syndrome from the Ukraine through Reece's Rainbow. I cannot say enough good things about this organization and their commitment to the orphans and families they serve! They are literally helping to save the lives of the most vulnerable and unwanted children around the world.

Reece's Rainbow has helped over 400 children with Down Syndrome and other disabilities find their forever families in less than 5 years. Perhaps most incredibly, it does so with an all volunteer staff. Your money cannot go to a charity which will be a better steward of your donation.

Reece's Rainbow is most amazing organization. I have been a supporter since the beginning and personal friend of the founder. Also as the mother to a child with Down syndrome, this charity is close to my heart! Such an amazing way to help a child with a disability find their forever family!!!

Reecee's Rainbow's mission is more than honorable, it is the very essence of what a true non-profit should be; helpful, caring and not about personal gain for the board.
Bravo to Andrea and the rainbow for the incredible work they do.

Be more clear about what each country requires and which children belong to which country.
