RAINFOREST ACTION NETWORK

Rating: 4.91 stars   23 reviews

Issues: Environment

Location: 221 Pine St Ste 500 San Francisco CA 94104 USA

Mission: Rainforest Action Network campaigns for the forests, their inhabitants, and the natural systems that sustain life by transforming the global marketplace through grassroots organizing, education, and non-violent direct action.
Geographic areas served: US and International
Programs: RAN's campaigns strive to eliminate the consumer markets and the financial backbone that make industrial forest destruction viable. The Old Growth Campaign works to preserve the Earth's remaining ancient forests by driving old growth wood products out of the marketplace and promoting sustainable alternatives. The goal of the Global Finance Campaign is to bring social and environmental accountability to all aspects of global financial business practices. RAN's Jumpstart Ford Campaign works to halt global climate change by convincing the auto industry to eliminate greenhouse gases by targeting the biggest, worst polluter in the fleet - Ford Motor Company. In an era of unprecedented environmental policy rollbacks, market-based campaigns are the most effective and efficient means to address the critical environmental and social issues of our time. Not subject to the vacillation of public offices and the power of lobbying interests, market advocacy campaigns mobilize the pressure of public opinion and consumer buying power to create incentives that drive corporations to adopt and implement their own regulations and standards. By changing the relationship between industry and the natural environment, we can halt climate destabilization, achieve broader forest protection, and help to secure land rights for indigenous communities in impacted regions.

RAN is a terrific grass roots organization that truly focus all their effort into curbing greenhouse gas emissions and stopping the destruction of rainforests around the world. The only slightly negative thing I can say about them is that their devotion to the cause may make their internal organization a little haphazard. I've had my member info mixed up with others, and they actually are kind of slow in follow up for membership renewal.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the updates they send.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

get the internal aspects a little more organized.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

they are grassroots without seeming overly extremist.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

have more resources to influence a greater number of people.

Ways to make it better...

I didn't wonder when they'd be sending a membership renewal notice. It want to keep supporting the cause, but it's their responsibility, not mine.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

polluters have more money.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I have been involved with Rainforest Action Network for 17 years now. They are responsive to both their members, and the urgent issues facing us today. I feel that they maintain great character and integrity. It is important to recognize and support such organizations. Thank you, Amanda Amanda Kuchta

I feel privelaged to have been introduced to RAN in 2008 as I was recovering from cancer. I am the parent of a special needs child ,so I support alot of organizations. Global warming & the needless destruction of our Rainforests is something I have always been passionate about as I would like future generations to be able to enjoy this beautiful planet. The rate of destruction of our planet often frightens & leaves me feeling hopeless, but finding RAN has given me a renewed sense of hope for saving the planet. I have found the work done by the incredible people who are working for RAN to be selfless, committed, unyielding and passionate. The information supplied to the general public, such as myself , enlightens and warns of what might happen if the destruction of the rainforests continues yet they are so upbeat & positive THEY will overcome & succeed in stopping these crimes against nature you find yourself more mindful & encouraging everyone you know to join in this fight! I have many organizations to contribute funding to, especially being a cancer fighter & the parent of a mentally ill child, but RAN is always on the top of my list for continued financial support. I am confident every dollar I donate is spent in empowering this organization & not being wasted on the CEO flying first class to meetings like alot of other non profits I know about. In the short time I have been involved with RAN I am proud to say I have recruited about 150 people to join & become a part of RAN and have challenged people to donate. I even am working on getting my company to match donations made by employees to RAN, that is how affected & excited I have become about RAN.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Changes being discussed in Washington DC & the media

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

CHANGE NOTHING THE PEOPLE RUNNING THIS ORGANIZATION ARE INCREDIBLY EFFECTIVE

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Feeling I am making a difference.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

AMAZING SELFLESS COMPASSIONATE

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

SAVE THE RAINFORESTS & HELP STOP GLOBAL WARMING!

Ways to make it better...

NOTHING WOULD MAKE IT BETTER. THEY ARE GREAT

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

FUNDING,PUBLIC AWARENESS

One thing I'd also say is that...

NEEDS TO BE BROUGHT FORWARD ON A MORE INTERNATIONAL AWARENESS LEVEL
