Geographic areas served: Bay Area
Mission:
Since 1995, Wardrobe for Opportunity (WFO) has worked in partnership with the community to help low income members of the Bay Area find a job, keep a job, and build a career.
Results:
To date this year, WFO has had an incredible impact on our communities:
* WFO has provided professional attire and one-on-one consultations on creating a professional image to over 1300 low-income jobseekers; 100% of those served report a rise in their self-esteem and self-confidence and, despite the challenging economic environment, over 90% of clients who received working wardrobes in 2009 were still employed three months later.
* Interview workshops were in high demand! We doubled the number of workshops, including new sessions with companies such as Nordstrom and Westamerica Bank, offering twenty-four workshops for our clients. Over 10% of participants secured employment with the corporate sponsor.
* In 2009, WFO’s innovative personal and career development program, Pathways, was expanded. We offered four Pathways for Women, the first ever Pathways for Men and in December, will deliver the first off-site Pathways program in San Francisco! To date this year, 86% of graduates have retained employment, 6% of students have enrolled in school full-time as part of the personal career development plan and the average annual salary rose from $15,015 to $20,811 a year, a 28% increase.
* Success Series was launched! To build on Pathways’ success, WFO developed the year-long Success Series to include workshops, career coaching and mentoring to help individuals build successful careers. In 2009, WFO grew the program to deliver two sessions – the first class will graduate in February!
