Mission

United Ministries is a housing and social justice organization dedicated to assisting homeless men who want to change their lives, and to changing community attitudes toward the homeless.

Target demographics:

Men who are homeless and in recovery from alcohol or substance abuse in the Baltimore area.

Results to date:

FY 2008 Special points of interest:

Forty men were provided with housing; 568 were turned away for no bed space.

Twenty-two men entered the program in 2008; of those:

Eighteen were chronically homeless

Sixteen were between 31 and 50 years old, two were between 18 and 30 and four were between 51 and 61

Two were veterans

Nineteen were diagnosed with mental illness,

All reported drug abuse; six also reported alcohol abuse

Eleven had no income when entering the program

Of the twenty-two who left in 2008, eleven were employed, 9 had monthly incomes of more than $1,000 and fifteen moved into permanent housing.

Direct beneficiaries per year: Approximately 30 men

Indirect beneficiaries per year: Family members of all those served.

Obstacles:

Raising the needed funds for general operating
Finding affordable permanent housing for the men

Your donation enables us to continue to provide high quality supportive services to the men so that they can address the barriers in their lives and become positive and producitve citizens.

purchase forty pounds of chicken from the Maryland Food Bank

Your donation of $50 enables us to:

purchase a month’s supply of cleaning products

Your donation of 100 enables us to:

provide daily case management services
