Description: These Numbers Have Faces operates a dynamic education and community transformation program in South Africa.

The TNHF program provides the following for ambitious township youth:

+ College Scholarships and higher education opportunities

+ Academic, emotional, and spiritual support

+ Tutoring and mentoring

+ Financial literacy and computer training

+ Opportunities for community service and volunteer work

+ Leadership & development training

Target demographics: The primary beneficiaries of the project are ambitious youth from the Cape Flats townships, both male and female, ages 18-25. All TNHF students show promise and dedication in their academic endeavors and community involvement, and are actively engaged with our partner community empowerment programs, yet are prevented from pursuing higher education due to extreme financial hardships.

Secondary beneficiaries include family members of the students and ultimately the Cape Flats community, as an increased number of young men and women become educated, financially literate, and committed to investing in their communities.

Direct beneficiaries per year: 15-20

Someone who had 3 hours of volunteer time could: South Africa: Tutoring, life skills workshops, office management.
USA: Direct mailings, fundraising activities

Geographic areas served: Cape Flats, Townships, Gugulethu, Cape Town, South Africa

USA locations: Portland, OR

Board Members and Affiliation: Chase Armour
Lisa Armour
Yung Ouyang
George Lee

Mission:
These Numbers Have Faces (TNHF) educates and empowers South African youth to ignite community transformation.

We envision a future in which South African youth are breaking the cycle of economic instability, inequality, and injustice.

Results:
To date, TNHF has provided 18 young South Africans college scholarships within the community impact program. 4 students have graduated and have secured employment and or internships.

A college education in South Africa means empowerment, opportunity, and academic equality for township youth.

Education has been proven to lift people and communities out of poverty and it is statistically proven that those with a higher degree of education have a better of quality of life and are more poised to impact and develop their own communities.

The staff is very responsive to my questions and even so willingly send marketing, informative materials for anyone who wants to help spread the word and understand what TNHF does. My gift was matched by the company I work for dollar-to-dollar. The staff helped me make sure that it happened. Very ... more »

These guys not only have their hearts in the right place, but their understanding of what the needs are in South Africa - and how those needs can be met by members WITHIN the community - is astounding and inspiring. I will give my support to These Numbers Have Faces for as long as they accept it... more »
