Mission

Spark inspires Bay Area youth with real-world opportunities.

Key Facts

Geographic areas served:

San Francisco Bay Area

Target demographics:

Spark inspires middle-school youth to pursue their interests, create bonds with their communities, and develop a lifelong passion for learning. To accomplish this mission, Spark operates summer and after-school programs that match students with apprenticeships in professions of their choice at local workplaces.

Spark works with 7th and 8th grade students in Redwood City and San Francisco.

Results to date:

We have served 130 students in the Bay Area since 2005.

Obstacles:

We have had tremendous difficulties securing transportation for the students in our program. Often times their parents are unavailable or unable to drive them to and from apprenticeships and programs. We have often had to pay drivers or rent vans to transport the children.

What your donation will allow us to do:

ensure that all students, regardless of household income, have the opportunity to be inspired by an apprenticeship in a profession of their choice. Spark programs are offered on a sliding scale, and students, dependent on need, pay as little as $20 per semester.

Your donation of $75 enables us to:

provide transportation for a student field trip to a local community center, learning institution, or business.

Your donation of $200 enables us to:

provide snacks for students throughout leadership program semester.

Your donation of $800 enables us to:

sponsor a student’s full 8-week apprenticeship and leadership program.

Description

Resonate’s SPARK program inspires middle-school youth to pursue their interests, create bonds with their communities, and develop a lifelong passion for learning.

Programs

Resonate operates Spark, a youth apprenticeship program for students in San Francisco and Redwood City, CA. In 2008, Spark will serve 132 Bay Area youth with engaging, one-on-one apprenticeships. Spark matches middle-school students with apprenticeships in professions of their choice at local workplaces. This experience is supported by a leadership development curriculum, inspiring students to envision their futures, deepen their self-understanding, and develop the tools and confidence to access local resources.
