Target demographics: Women, girls and their families

Mission:
Our mission is to provide women and girls with access to tools and resources to achieve full and equal participation in society. We remain committed to this mission because, despite many social and political advances for women and girls, we know that women still face unique social, personal and political barriers as they strive to lead safe, healthy, economically secure, creative and joyous lives. Thus, we welcome all women and girls to this vibrant community center.
Results:
We have been able to keep our bi-lingual programs and services strong despite the tough economy. Our Community Resource Room has seen an increase in the number of women and their families looking for services, especially our Job Search Assistance Program and our Food Pantry for Immigrants. Both of these programs have seen a 30% or more increase in need. We have added programs, like ESL classes and Wellness workshops, including Healthy Cooking classes and exercise classes; All of these classes are so that women can take charge of their lives and those of their families.
Our Building continues to be full with 11 other nonprofits that serve the needs of women and girls. This includes domestic violence services, advocacy and activism, after-school programs and volunteer opportunities.
Our 32nd Annual Celebration of Craftswomen again attracted thousands to Fort Mason, to enjoy and purchase one-of-a-kind crafts from hundreds of craftswomen.
In addition, this year we celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the structure that houses The Women's Building. We were delighted to have Flyaway Productions dance off the side of the building for two weekends of stunning aerial dancing.
We look forward to another year of responding and providing services to our community and also to celebrating the accomplishments of women, especially artists.

I felt at home in the Women's Building, from the moment I walked in to be trained as a volunteer for SFWAR many years ago. I still love being there -- the building is vibrant with activities and happenings. I so appreciate that there is a place for a community supporting women and girls. I ... more »
