Target demographics: Everybody in northern Allegheny County can be a part of “People Helping People.” Low-income families, people experiencing disasters or other hardships, and frail elderly individuals can receive help. Adults and youth can help their neighbors in need by volunteering and/or donating funds and goods, such as food, winter coats, school supplies, etc.
Direct beneficiaries per year: 1,248 food pantry participants, 1,472 received utility help, 627 elderly received nonmedical assistance from 134 volunteers
Geographic areas served: Northern Allegheny County for the majority of services; some programs are covered countywide and beyond
Mission:
NHCO is a faith-based organization that addresses the needs of people in crisis, hardship and poverty so that no one in our community is cold, hungry or alone.
Results:
In 2009-10, $1,219,023 in direct assistance was provided to 4,915 families in poverty, hardship and crisis.

NHCO helps many individuals and families in a myriad of ways. They strive to aid people from food and job resumes to financial planning and transportation needs, etc. On occasions when they cannot directly fill the need, they refer to other agencies. And they use volunteers in as many roles as ...

There should be more stars ! Everyone at NHCO is so wonderful, helpful and knowledgeable ! They were there when I needed them most. The pantry workers are so helpful, especially the "Cereal Man" ! Natalie is an Angel and was so helpful and pleasant. It was refreshing to meet such wonderful people. ...
